Sideface: Australia's 'biggest defence export' was meant to go to the US first, but Canada snuck past Donald Trump

Australia's PM Albanese: "It’s important that we develop a diverse series of relationships, and Canada is a very important one"

to English translation

Trump slapped us with a tariff, so now we’re pretending to care about other countries to send a message."

or

"Australia's diversifying our relationships the same way someone diversifies their stock portfolio -- to reduce risk and increase bargaining power, not because we actually care about Canada.

The 2017 Kennedy Center Honors offended President Donald Trump during his first term.

Several honorees, including Norman Lear, Lionel Richie, and Gloria Estefan, made it clear they were uncomfortable with Trump's presidency.

Norman Lear, for instance, said he would boycott the White House reception if Trump attended.

Being a thin-skinned snowflake, Trump decided not to attend any of the events, breaking with long-standing tradition.

Trump also canceled the customary White House reception.

Now for his revenge. In February 2025, the baby initiated a significant restructuring of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He removed all 18 board members, asserting his authority to appoint new trustees. His appointees elected Trump as chairman, a role traditionally filled through internal board elections.

Trump Visits the Kennedy Center and Muses on Hosting its Honors Gala: New York Times

President Trump visited the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Monday for the first time since he stunned the cultural and political establishment nearly five weeks ago by taking over the institution.

“We’re here to have our first board meeting,” he told reporters as he toured the center with his chief of staff, Susie Wiles, and a few of the people he has appointed to the center’s board, including the country singer [and Trump Bible salesman] Lee Greenwood (he sings “God Bless the U.S.A.”) and the Fox News personalities Laura Ingraham and Maria Bartiromo.

During the board meeting Mr. Trump floated the idea of hosting the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony himself, according to an audio recording of the meeting obtained by The New York Times. Mr. Trump boycotted the ceremony, an annual star-studded gala that is televised on CBS, during his first term after several of the artists who were being honored criticized him.

“The king of ratings, whether we like or not, the king of ratings,” Mr. Trump told the board, referring to himself. He added: “If you announced that, every network will start bidding on it, going crazy, for whatever reason, that’s the way it is.”

He also discussed potential honorees, including giving posthumous awards to Luciano Pavarotti and Elvis Presley.

During the day he had some thoughts about programming at the Kennedy Center.

“I never liked ‘Hamilton’ very much,” he said, taking a poke at a show that canceled a planned tour there next year to protest his takeover of the institution, which had long been bipartisan.

They did just that on Thursday, when Marocco and DOGE operatives took control of the agency’s headquarters with the support of U.S. Marshals and commenced dismantling its operations.

Right, so we know which side the US Marshals are on. Hint: not the side of the Constitution which they took an oath to uphold.

Its hard to believe this is not some sort of scam?

So your small minded hatred for people who gave you Medicaid, and many other things.
Had you vote for GOP and Trump giving Trump / GOP / Elon unrestrained power to destroy your health programs.
Which they were quite clear that they would do.

Even from the point of having significant health issues yourself and voting for RFK 'really!'
RFK who will just point out you did it to yourself, and should have been eating lard, drinking magic water.
Elon will point out the longtermist benefit of you ceasing to be a burden, leave more room for his superior genetics. Trump has famously said the same about child of one of his relatives not being worth small change to him.

You got vile, narcissistic, self-aggrandizing, kleptocracy you wanted to steal everyone's future.

So... ?

Here's strange facts about African Americans (and women) during WWII.

African Americans served primarily in segregated units, often relegated to non-combat roles like supply, maintenance, or labor battalions, especially in the earlier years of the war.

Stupidly because African Americans were considered inferior, they were segregated and had limited access to front-line combat. So racism meant African American combat death rate was lower than that of white soldiers. They were kept out of the most dangerous assignments due to racism and discriminatory military policies.

In a strange sidenote, there's a similar dynamic with women in WWII. Women in the U.S. military did not die in large numbers because they were barred from direct combat roles.

Jackie Robinson was the legendary baseball player who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1944, during World War II.

He eventually became a second lieutenant.

He faced intense racism along with other prominent Black figures, like boxing champion Joe Louis. Both advocated for equal treatment of Black soldiers.

In 1944, Robinson was court-martialed for refusing to move to the back of a segregated military bus, a full 11 years before Rosa Parks’ famous protest. He was eventually acquitted.

Defense Dept. restores story on Jackie Robinson military service:ESPN

The Department of Defense restored a story on its website highlighting Jackie Robinson's military service Wednesday after deleting it as part of President Donald Trump's efforts to purge references to diversity, equity and inclusion through a "digital content refresh."

While it does not make any references to DEI, the story on Robinson was among a swath scrubbed from government websites in recent days. Before the story on Robinson's service was restored, the URL had redirected to one that added the letters "dei" in front of "sports-heroes."

In a statement sent by the Pentagon at 1:24 p.m. ET Wednesday, press secretary John Ullyot cited Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in saying "DEI is dead at the Defense Department" and said the Department of Defense was "pleased by the rapid compliance" that led to the erasing of stories on Robinson, Navajo Code Talkers and Ira Hayes, one of six Marines who raised the American flag at Iwo Jima.

To see where this led, google "port chicago disaster" and "port chicago mutiny".  The convictions were finally quashed last year, eighty years after the event and probably after all involved had died.

This doesn't seem very credible.  If you're going for the sympathy vote then you don't begin by telling people you're a complete moron, you'd say something like "I voted for Trump because I believed he'd make things better, but ...".

Fair enough, although I hasten to add it is a meme, so I don't vouch for the accuracy 😀 I just found it highly amusing (moreso if true).

Ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny  ...

The NY Times - Trump to Sign Order Aimed at Dismantling Education Department

20 March 2025

President Trump plans to sign an executive order on Thursday instructing Education Secretary Linda McMahon to begin dismantling the agency, according to two White House officials.

The department cannot be closed without the approval of Congress, which created it.

But the Trump administration has already taken steps to narrow the agency’s authority and significantly cut its work force while also telegraphing plans to try and shutter it.

EDIT

and ...

AlterNet - What's behind Trump's attack on the American mind?

20 March 2025

Today, Trump is dismantling the Department of Education. He’s ordering wrestling executive-turned-Education Secretary Linda McMahon to shut her department.

His executive order will effectively destroy a $100 billion-a-year executive department created by Congress under President Jimmy Carter 45 years ago.

But there’s a much larger plan here.

Combine this with Trump’s attacks on higher education - his gutting the funding of the National Institutes of Health (which provides a large portion of biomedical research) and the National Science Foundation (engineering and computer research), and his effective closure of USAID (which underwrites research in global diseases).

Combine this with Trump’s attacks on the freedom of speech of university students and professors.

Put this together with Trump’s attack on America’s libraries - last week’s executive order mandating cuts in the funding of libraries around the country - which will jeopardize literacy development and reading programs, reliable internet access for those without it at home, and homework help and other resources for students and educators. ...

Ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny.

Predictable. Trump hates to think anyone else could be smarter than him. Which is everyone.

Ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny.

Millionaires and Billionaires became rich because a) they either inherited or b) they made it themselves, and those that inherited and became richer (without multiple bankruptcies) all got to where they are due to a diverse education.

By diverse, I mean as an example: "The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) have a rich history intertwined with the development and application of logic, particularly in their educational and missionary work, emphasizing reason and critical thinking as tools for understanding the world and faith."

But Trump & Co don't know what true education, logic and critical thinking are. As JKF said "We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard,"

In part, it was the space race that helped make post WWII America great, and the Cold War did the rest.

The rich still have to rely upon an educated employee base to remain and strengthen their wealth. Dismantle education and research in any form, and you will end up with a dumber and less wealthy country.

So go ahead, Trump & Co and make the United States of America dumb and poorer. But of course by that time you will all be gone.

The Greeks, Romans, French, Dutch and English all had longer lasting greatness and superpower status than America has had or ever will have - 1945 to 2025‼️

The destruction of the American education system, that once Made America Great, is and will NOT Make America Great Again ❗️

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
