https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/04/pierre-poilievre-canada-conservatives-polling-00272695

The orange buffoon is even screwing things up for the Conservatives in another country (in this case, Canada):

As voters ask who’s best to handle the president, many see Poilievre’s Canada First message as too similar to Trump’s America First agenda, and his simple slogans are turning off even party supporters. His late attempt to pivot only appeared to fuel a Liberal ascension in the polls.

If the democratic candidates would grow a spine, it would pull most of the oxygen out of the air for the Republicans.

Just stand up for anything, refuse to budge, and keep it up for decades.

Do you think the conservatives loaded the supreme court overnight? No, it took at least two generations.

What's astounding is that nearly half of Americans still approve of someone whose only real actions so far have been playing Jenga with the government and economy.

That USA scores far higher in Religiousity than many other places.
That is often concentrated where Gerrymander works well for GOP.

May explain the willingness to self flagilate, self harm of USA.
Evangelical wealth Churches probably see income go up in tough times.

Trump always wants to be the bigliest, so going after GW Bushes record.
Looks like he has momentum to beat it. If weekend does not act as a breaker.

Trump Tariff uncertainty principle.

Tariff is to create steady income for long term tax reductions, even zero tax.
And
Tariff is to bring manufacturing back to USA at higher costs eliminating income to replace tax.

Both are true at the same time.
There are more conflicting explanations in Trumpasphere, a different one for every season.

The Guardian - Ted Cruz warns of midterm ‘bloodbath’ if Trump tariffs cause a recession

06 April 2025

Ted Cruz, the US senator from Texas, has warned that his fellow Republicans risk a “bloodbath” in the 2026 midterm elections if Donald Trump’s “liberation day” tariffs cause a recession.

Cruz also warned that the president’s tariffs, if they stay in place for long and are met by global retaliation on American goods, could trigger a full-blown trade war that “would destroy jobs here at home, and do real damage to the US economy”. ...

Cruz warned that tariffs and trade retaliation over the long term could push the US into “a recession, particularly a bad recession - 2026 in all likelihood politically would be a bloodbath”.

You would face a Democrat House, and you might even face a Democrat Senate,” Cruz said.

If we’re in the middle of a recession and people are hurting badly, they punish the party in power,” Cruz warned, adding he did not share the White House’s position that the tariffs would usher in “a booming economy”.

quickymart:  The Canadian is right 😉 ...

Just to clarify: (See wiki)

Cruz was born in Canada, and became a US citizen in 2014.
His mother was of Irish / Italian descent.
His father was of Cuban descent, with US citizenship.

Yes, I know 😉 I was making a dig at that idiotic Trump lawyer John Eastman who tried to argue that Harris "wasn't a citizen" despite being born in the US and couldn't run for president, whereas Cruz - who was born in Canada (with one American parent) was "completely fine" to run.

For Trump's guitars, Gibson issued a cease and desist for “infringing upon” the manufacturer’s trademarks, including the distinctive Les Paul body shape.

Stupid:

During Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, the country music "The Frontmen" frequently performed at his rallies and events. It's likely that's where Trump got idea to shill Chinese Gibson fakes painted red white and blue to the suckers.

And Stupider:

Chinese-made guitars, Chinese printed "God Bless the USA" bibles, Trump sneakers will likely face a 54% tariff when imported into the U.S. It's estimated 97% of MAGA hats and tshirts are manufactured abroad.

New documentary appears to confirm that Trump Guitars are being manufactured in China: GuitarWorld

If you think that Trump Guitars are “Made in USA”, think again. The patriotic line, which claims to be endorsed – although not owned – by President Trump, made waves in the guitar market last year after Gibson issued a cease-and-desist due to the models' uncanny resemblance to its classic designs. Now, a new documentary appears to suggest that these guitars are being manufactured in China.

A CGTN documentary [released this month, April,] about the guitar manufacturing powerhouse of Zheng'an County, in the country's Guizhou province, claims that Trump Guitars are allegedly being manufactured by Shenqu Guitars – a leading local enterprise that claims to export to over 40 countries and counts Fender and Ibanez among its clients.

“The US President Trump has used our guitar,” says Zheng Chuanjiu, the owner of Shenqu Guitars, as he shows the Trump Guitars website on his phone to the interviewer.

“During [Trump's] campaign last year, there was a band contributing to his tour. They found us custom guitars for his tour. After his successful election, now we sell this kind of guitar in the US. We have once got an order with 12,000 guitars.”

I bet the US flag lapel pin also comes from China. And his suits (possibly) from Italy.

Americans will soon be drinking ‘champagne’ (by the way: AOC) from America (except for the rich, who won't be deterred by 200% import tariffs).

Gamergate in 2014 drew attention to a conservative streak in gaming culture.

Pew Research Center (2015) found that while men who identify as gamers are more likely to consider themselves Republican/conservative.

Some low-quality studies of online gaming communities gamers are attracted to conservative rhetoric.

So given Trump's strong win, the new Nintendo switch release should cause pain to US Trump supporters.

My wild estimate on new console, excluding GST. New Zealand gamer at $800 NZD versus America gamer at NZD $1,150.

Nintendo delays Switch 2 pre-orders in response to Trump tariffs. Proposed tariffs could raise prices by nearly 50%: Polygon

Nintendo has delayed pre-orders in the United States for the Switch 2 in response to sweeping new tariffs outlined by the Trump administration earlier this week. Pre-orders were scheduled to begin on April 9, but have been delayed indefinitely, Nintendo said Friday.

Switch 2’s release date in the U.S. is still set for June 5.

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions”
...
Nintendo announced its next-generation console on Wednesday, setting the price of Switch 2 at USD $449.99, NZD $800.

A few hours later, U.S. President Donald Trump announced “reciprocal tariffs” on dozens of countries, including territories where Nintendo manufactures its hardware. Trump hit China with an additional 34% duty on Wednesday, and hit Vietnam, where Nintendo has moved some of its production, with a 46% tariff. That could mean Switch 2’s already expensive price tag could go up even further for customers in the U.S.

People gather for the “Hands Off” rally on the National Mall.

The Washington Post - Mass protests across the U.S. signal opposition to Trump, Musk

today

Tens of thousands of people crowded in front of the Washington Monument and in cities across the nation on Saturday to protest President Donald Trump and top adviser Elon Musk’s dismantling of federal agencies, imposition of sweeping tariffs and what demonstrators called the circumvention of due process.

Police began closing streets around the National Mall on Saturday afternoon as the crowd swelled beyond the figures predicted by organizers.

Organizers said at least 1,300 “Hands Off” rallies were planned by more than 150 groups in all 50 states.
