Note the hand positions and which person is the dominant one. Hint, it's not Trump.

This is slightly off-topic, but I don't care!  This is what happens when Donald stuffs up ...  🙃

Reuters - Chinese exporters ask local consumers to buy goods meant for US

SHANGHAI, April 16 (Reuters) - Chinese sellers of items from lunch boxes to appliances have taken to social media platform Rednote to generate sympathy purchases, telling domestic consumers they are offloading stock at bargain prices amid U.S. tariffs.

Over the past week, dozens of sellers have broadcast livestreams showing goods produced for U.S. customers, which they said they could no longer sell because of tariff rates of 145% for made-in-China goods imposed by President Donald Trump's administration.

In one livestream, user "Dingding Cloud Foreign Trade Warehouse" sells small appliances, including rice cookers, juicers and toasters by telling viewers: "The U.S. has breached its contract. No more shipments! Everything is on sale at 90% off!"

In another video, by user "Muzi Has Good Goods," a host hawked appliances while surrounded by boxes marked "trade transit containers", saying they had no more space in their warehouse because of orders they could no longer send to the U.S.

The NY Times - Judge Threatens Contempt Proceedings Over Deportation Flights to El Salvador (free unlocked link)

breaking

A federal judge in Washington threatened on Wednesday to open a high-stakes contempt investigation into whether the Trump administration violated an order he issued last month directing officials to stop planes of Venezuelan migrants from being sent to El Salvador.

In a 46-page ruling, the judge, James E. Boasberg, said he would begin contempt proceedings against the administration unless the White House did what it has failed to do for more than a month: give scores of Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador a chance to challenge their removal. ...

Judge Boasberg’s threat of contempt proceedings, coupled with another federal judge’s move on Tuesday to open a similar inquiry in a separate deportation case, represented a remarkable attempt by jurists to hold the White House accountable for its apparent willingness to flout court orders.

Should administration officials slow-walk his efforts, Judge Boasberg warned that he could make a criminal referral to the Justice Department or even appoint an outside prosecutor.

The judge is a brave man ...   😕

The "anti-woke" saga continues ...

The Washington Post - Trump administration asks IRS to revoke Harvard’s tax-exempt status

breaking

The Trump administration has asked the Internal Revenue Service’s top attorney to revoke Harvard University’s tax-exempt status, amid President Donald Trump’s row with the institution over its handling of antisemitism and diversity practices.

The directive is a significant escalation of the president’s feud with Ivy League institutions and other nonprofit groups his administration views as “woke” ...

Tax-exempt status is available to charitable, religious and educational organizations, as well as social welfare groups. But the organizations must strictly adhere to tax laws that prohibit them from engaging in certain political activity.

There is no proof that Harvard has violated any of those guardrails, experts say.

Why are we not surprised?  😕

I saw a good snippet of a video at a Republican town hall the other day. A voter asked the representative (I can't remember who it was) why they should have to obey the law, when the president can just thumb his nose at the law, ignore judicial rulings and do whatever the hell he wants?

I thought said voter made a good point.

Watching playthrough of 'Kingdom Come Deliverance II' , I think I learnt something.

Nobles had a wide range of immunity unless they displeased their King.
A plot point being poaching from local Lords lands was a hanging offence.
One of your party about to be hanged for same, despite being a Noble,
as no one believed/knew they were.

So America is now regressed to Feudal times !
You have to obey the law as you are a merchant or peasant class, and not a Noble, Lord or King.

Trump as King having got immunity from the Supremes, and can pass on that immunity,
or at least pardons to chosen Lords and Noble minions, like Elon and Big Balls.

Time to read up on Medieval histories to survive in the new world.

Throughout the 2024 presidential election, Trump kept the protection of the Second Amendment at the forefront of his campaign. In 2025, the Trump administration announced plans to roll back a program that cracks down on gun dealers who falsify business records. He also has plans to skip customer background checks.

Trump on Florida State university shooting.

"I'm a big advocate of the Second Amendment, I have been from the beginning. I protected it."

"These things are terrible. But the gun doesn't do the shooting, the people do -- a phrase that's used probably too often. It's a shame. I'm just hearing about it now. I know the area very well, I know the school very well, it's Florida.

Trump said he will "have more to say" in the future, "Only in terms of what happened." However, he does not plan on pushing for changes in legislation.

"This has been going on for a long time. I have an obligation to protect the Second Amendment, I ran on the Second Amendment among many other things, and I will always protect the Second Amendment."

Sounds like the typical, tired, oft-repeated line dragged out by the gun-loving crowd, "guns aren't the problem, people are the problem."

But if people really are the problem, why the hell would you let people get guns??? 🙄

Satisfy the media/voters that's the priority. Lives and the people, a much lower priority. Get back to me in the mid terms, when we will be told by Trump how stupid the non GOP voters are

I agree.

"Guns don't kill people. People kill people" is a false dichotomy (false dilemma).

First, it falsely tries reduce the world into two exclusive options -- either guns kill people, or people do. It's not one or the other.

Secondl it also oversimplifies the relationship between people and guns. It ignores the role that access to guns increases the lethality of violent people.

Third, it is also strawman fallacy. It misrepresents the position of gun control advocates. Most aren't arguing that inanimate objects (guns) spontaneously kill people; they argue that easy access to guns increases the risk and frequency of violence.

Lastly it intentionally creates confusion with subtle shifting the meaning of "kill." The phrase "guns kill" from the usual shorthand "guns are the tools used to kill people" to "since all inanimate objects, from guns to Molotov cocktails to roadside bombs, lack agency, they cannot kill on their own."

In summary: 'Don’t try to teach a pig logic. It wastes your time and confuses the pig."

From the forum "Learning English" (I'm not making this up): "Calling an actual person a peasant is almost always negative and would be insulting to the person so described. Generally this means the person is unsophisticated, uneducated, poor, continually mistreated, etc. "

China trolls JD Vance Over ‘Chinese Peasants’ remark: Retaliates with 125% tariffs on U.S. goods amid growing trade tensions: Economic Times India

Synopsis

"China trolls JD Vance" after the U.S. Vice President's controversial comments about "Chinese peasants" during a Fox News interview.

In response, Chinese official Xia Baolong flipped the insult back on Vance and the U.S., calling for respect for China’s 5,000 years of civilization.

Along with this verbal exchange, China has announced a 125% tariff on U.S. goods, escalating the trade tensions.

The clash between the two nations goes beyond economics, with Beijing also criticizing U.S. policies towards Hong Kong.

This intensifying rivalry is only adding fuel to the ongoing U.S.-China trade war.
