I think he is now in a phase in which, as a non-American, he can be safely ignored as a priority - at least until he starts banging on about Greenland, NATO or tariffs again. At some point he might even forget his numerous 90-day deferments … for what again? Every day a new pig is driven through the village. 😁

Nixon or his aides for the benefit of Nixon seem to have delayed any Vietnam peace settlement to keep this as an issue to help his election. Such as handwritten notes from Nixon aide H.R. Haldeman, that record instructions to use intermediaries (notably Anna Chennault) to persuade the South Vietnamese government to delay reaching a ceasefire. The Vietnam delegation did indeed withdraw from these talks.

Trump desperately wants a Noble Peace prize, he has banged on about this in the past on an number of occasions.
He might even consider 'Trump Gaza' will get him a second one later.

So it would not be beyond Trump and GOP to make sure that any peace is negotiated with Trump, to benefit of Trump.

Trump wants wealth, power, accolades, and Putin can give him that if Putin gets what he wants.
Suits Putin as he builds up for summer campaign, with full backing of North Korea, Iran, with a side serving of dual use materials and tech from China, while US support is on drip feed.

How the mighty have fallen …  🙄

Reuters - Moody's cuts America's pristine credit rating, citing rising debt

May 16 (Reuters) - Moody's downgraded the U.S. sovereign credit rating on Friday [to "Aa1"] due to concerns about the nation's growing, $36 trillion debt pile, in a move that could complicate President Donald Trump's efforts to cut taxes and send ripples through global markets.

Moody's first gave the United States its pristine "Aaa" rating in 1919 and is the last of the three major credit agencies to downgrade it.

"Successive US administrations and Congress have failed to agree on measures to reverse the trend of large annual fiscal deficits and growing interest costs," Moody's said on Friday, as it changed its outlook on the U.S. to "stable" from "negative."

The announcement drew criticism from people close to Trump. Stephen Moore, former senior economic advisor to Trump and an economist at Heritage Foundation, called the move "outrageous".

EDIT:  New Zealand's current sovereign credit rating from Moody's is Aaa with a stable outlook.

once a grifter always a grifter.

Once a chump always a chump (did I spell that correctly)

Donald in Fantasy Land …

Trump arriving in Doha, Qatar

The NY Times - For Trump, Adulation and No Risk of Protests Made the Gulf a Dream Trip

17 May 2025

At every step of Mr. Trump’s whirlwind tour of the Middle East, he was treated with the kind of honor and respect he has long desired.

Escorts of fighter jets. Extravagant welcoming ceremonies. Red and lavender carpets. Arabian horses. Glitzy chandeliers. Camels. Sword dancers. White marble palaces. In the United Arab Emirate of Dubai, the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, lit up with an image of the American flag.

All in his honor.  …

The last four days have been really amazing,” Mr. Trump said on Thursday, as he was leaving a palace in Abu Dhabi,  where he had just been feted.

He added, looking rueful, “Probably going back to Washington, D.C., tomorrow.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, AOC, says Trump’s border czar should ‘learn to read’ after she becomes latest Democrat to be threatened by him: The Independent

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired back at President Donald Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan after he suggested she would be in “trouble” for hosting a webinar explaining migrants’ rights in the U.S.

Ocasio-Cortez shared a clip of Homan’s remarks on Blue Sky Thursday, with a caption mocking his words.

“‘MaYbe shE’s goiNg to be in TroUble nOw,’” she mocked Homan’s threats in a post on X. “Maybe he can learn to read,” she added. “The Constitution would be a good place to start.”

Homan appeared on Fox News that same day, revealing that he’s working with the Justice Department to determine whether Ocasio-Cortez was “crossing the line” when she aired a "Know Your Rights with ICE" (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) webinar on Facebook Wednesday.

“I sent an email today to the deputy attorney general,” Homan told Fox News. “At what level is that impedement? Is that impedement? I'm not an attorney, I'm not a prosecutor. Is that impedement?”

“So I'm working with the Department of Justice and finding out where is that line that they cross, so maybe AOC won't be in trouble now but I need the AAG [assistant Attorney General] to opine on that, because impediment is impediment in my opinion,” he continued, implying that explaining American legal rights could somehow be construed as illegal.

The NY Times Magazine - ‘Gimme’: A Word That Explains the President’s Worldview

17 May 2025

The term helps explain why he sees little difference between accepting a putt and accepting a plane.

When they give you a putt, you pick it up and walk to the next hole and say, ‘Thank you very much.’”

That was President Trump using a golf analogy to explain why he planned to accept the gift of an airplane from Qatar to use as a new, more luxurious Air Force One. ...

To do otherwise, he said, would be “stupid.” After all, you could take the putt and miss completely. The president has gone enough rounds to know that if an offer is made, take it while the taking is good. Who knows what might happen on the next hole?

This is how the Gentleman’s Game is played on Trump’s back nine. Gifts are given, favors bestowed.

The rules are whatever the guy who owns the club decides they are.
