Geektastic:

I spoke with my brother in California yesterday, who pronounces himself generally pleased with what has been done in Week 1.

His company is beginning the process of getting themselves ready to bid for the geotechnical work contracts on The Wall when they come out! Every cloud has a silver lining.

He said he has no idea why people are so keen to let Mexicans wander in and out at will - no one suggests doing the same for Canadians!

Huh?  Sounds like he's implying there is a wall between the USA and Canada? (there isn't)

Trump has used an executive order to ban immigrants, visitors, and refugees from seven countries. Currently this order is for 90 and 120 days respectively. But there is an exception:

CNN: The order also gave the Department of Homeland Security leeway to prioritize refugee claims made by people "on the basis of religious based persecution" as long as the person applying for refugee status is "a minority religion in the individual's country of nationality."

Trump explains why, in an exclusive interview with Christian Broadcasting Network News:

CBN: In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, President Donald Trump says persecuted Christians will be given priority when it comes to applying for refugee status in the United States. “We are going to help them,” President Trump tells CBN News. “They’ve been horribly treated. Do you know if you were a Christian in Syria it was impossible, at least very tough to get into the United States? If you were a Muslim you could come in,

No doubt that bit about Muslims in, Christians out, is something that will be backed up by Alex Jones. All the same, it's clear that Trump had good legal advice in the creation of that order.

It's very clear what Trump wants to achieve with that. Muslims are not welcome, Christians are welcome in. I'd guess that basis will see a supreme court challenge. It's exacty the same intention as borked playing field racial laws.

He signed the executive order to ban refugees on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Be that through thoughtless ignorance or considered thought, he's either a moron or just plain evil - probably both.

No, he was generally referring to the suggestions in various areas of the press and body politic that Mexicans be effectively legalised if they are illegal etc and commenting that nobody would suggest such a thing in relation to Canadians.

Canadians of course are generally far too polite to wander into another country - although I met someone in a hostel once who travelled for a month in Canada having walked in over the border in the back country, left the same way and never had any kind of documents for his visit!

I presume you are referring to that other time the USA closed it's doors to people fleeing persecution and terror:

Atlantic:: Neiss: No, this is actually at a time, in 1939, when the Nazis weren’t engaged in the mass killings of Jews. This voyage was actually used as a massive propaganda tool by Hitler and the Nazis to say: “Look, nobody wants these Jews; these people are really undesirable.”

Or probably neither, since a huge proportion of modern 'refugees' are nothing more than economic migrants by another name.

Best he asks for cash up front. Trump is well known for not paying contractors.

Anyone who things anyone (Mexican, US citizen or anyone else) can just wander back and forward across the border is deluded. It's already very, very difficult (not impossible, but the 'easy' crossing spots are well protected). Nearly 90% of those Trump is targeting with his 'wall' arrive on a commercial airline and enter the US legally.

That's an alternative truth of course. By definition they're different, and countries accepting refugees (as opposed to having illegal immigration issues) have vetting processes they use to find out.

Thank you.

I have read this, and now I understand why Trump won, and why Clinton was doomed to failure.

[DISCLOSURE]  I detest Trump.
