My preference is for a Swiss-style democracy, where the citizens periodically vote in binding referenda. A question can be added to the next referendum by a petition with some reasonably large number of signatures.

This is also my preference because of the principle involved, but it doesn't always give the best result:

The White House has admitted that they will use the 'fake news' label as punishment to any press organisation that criticises the Trump administration.

They are simply endorsing that being lying is good.

Some days it is. Keeping up with all this ructions is tiring.

All Trump's bologna is going to negatively affect stocks (and therefore kiwisaver, retirement funds and managed funds etc.) worldwide for the negative sooner or later. I'm hoping for a short, sharp jolt and quick recovery rather than a protracted Trump presidency with a corresponding long, hard drop with a slow recovery.

Didn't Marco Rubio's dad do it? Or was it Cruz? I have a hard time keeping my conspiracies straight.

one day he'll tweet the answer at 3am.

when I watched Obama on Bear Grylls' show, he said he's not allowed to carry a smartphone. obviously Trump has sacked whoever came up with that rule.

Possibly just a sign that Trump sees 'journalists' as equivalent to 'Isis'.

No he was referring to how the US "establishment" (ie the equivalent of Russia's aristocrats) also make people they don't like "disappear"

There are many articles refuting Trump's claims that the news media are under-reporting acts of terrorism.

This one from the Sydney Morning Herald is a personal favorite because of its admirable Australian directness:  smile

The madness of Donald Trump's attack on the media

As Joe Biden might ask, in your life have you ever heard such "malarkey?" Or as you might, or might not say - horse feathers, hogwash, piffle, flapdoodle, baloney, hooey, hokum, blarney, twaddle, poppycock, applesauce, tommyrot or bushwa. Or, if you're among friends, you might just say: "What a load of cr*p."

Currently watching the Kellyanne Conway interview on CNN. She is very good, fluent and never hesitates. She twists and turns to try to put a good spin on the ridiculous things Trump says and does, and almost makes them seem reasonable. I think she must have sold her soul to the devil to be as good as she is but if I was ever accused of a crime I would certainly want her defending me. She never misses a beat.

I'm sure Trump is working on ways to ban all things 3 letters, for example CNN, etc

But first he needs to sack all the judges in the country, introduce a new test to hire judges that he approves ...

Bet this is what keeps him awake after watching his pageant shows
