I've always assumed it's a side show is to divert the easily distracted media and by extension the public. Keep everyone busily engaged in angry slacktivism on social media, while the real agenda is rolled out un-noticed?

Maybe I give too much credit ...

Paul1977:

Do some of his supporters think he is God?

Did you not notice that widowed lady at the Congressional address casting her eyes to Heaven and weeping tears of joy as he anointed her? Trump's supporters do think he is God, and that is why no lie he tells or crime he commits shakes their belief in any way. What you are witnessing here is cult behaviour and there are lots of comments like the one you cite. It is dangerous and scary but there are still plenty of rational people in the country and its democratic institutions and I continue to have hope that at some point they will finally rise up and put an end to this travesty.

I have just been reading some history on the McCarthy era and in some ways it is very similar. First the rabid demagogues all jumped on the bandwaggon and viciously went after everyone they didn't approve of while they were on top and decent people stood back and shook their heads in amazement. Eventually people woke up to what was really going on and put a stop to it. I think that will likely happen again. Decent people are still in a state of shock that Trump is president at all, but at some point he and those around him will hang themselves.

Edit: For clarity, this post was in response to another post that now seems to have disappeared. This seems to be happening a lot to me recently.

No, I deleted it. After posting I thought it didn't really add to the discussion.

EDIT: Although maybe how blindly some of his supporters follow him I suppose is quite relevant. But in fairness to Trump, anyone can have fanatical supporters and they may not represent his support base a a whole.

The country of Iraq, population 30+ million is now ok in Trumpy's watered down new executive order, which will only exclude bad guys from six countries.

Despite;

The Madness of King Donald, a GOP in disarray/conflict over the repeal/reform of the ACA, the failed Muslim ban which wasn't a Muslim Ban despite the POTUS having campaigned on the basis of bringing in a Muslim Ban, Muslim Ban V2 looking much the same as Muslim Ban V1 WRT to being the promised Muslim Ban, a senior administration official resigning for lying, an Attorney General and a VP lying under oath, a POTUS who promised he'd release his tax returns when elected and now won't, damning circumstantial (and some hard) evidence of collusion with and or support by Russia in getting Trump elected, an environmental protection agency being dismantled and turned into an instrument with which to protect the commercial interests of polluting industries, a campaign against HRC's ties to Wall St, yet an administration pandering to the worst most selfish ambitions of assorted wolves of Wall St who've infiltrated the administration, obvious huge conflicts of interest and "influence for sale"  basically everywhere, Tillerson, DeVos etc, outright proven lies on almost a daily basis from the POTUS's twitter account, etc etc...

The POTUS "approval rating" has remained more-or-less constant, day to day variation as scandals - any of which would have doomed past presidents - come and go, those variations in popularity fall within the margin of error.  About 40% of the US population love him beyond reason, and are eager to forgive him for anything - past, present, and future.

While waiting for some terminal blow which should rid the planet of this POS president as well as his henchman Bannon, I can't help thinking we're doomed to witnessing the end-time of democracy in the USA, so far even their beloved constitution seems incapable of saving them from tyranny.

I'm all in favour of America breaking up. It may be the last hope. The west coast could become the nation of California, the northeast New America and the midwest and south The United States of Trailer Parks. Canada could have the rest.

All today's tweets about International Women's Day came from "twitter for iPhone".

So he didn't actually write "I have tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy." It was a staff member. What a gutless orange POS.

Also no spelling mistakes :D

Well at least we know that the phrase "Nobody has more respect for women than I do" came straight out of his mouth.

I saw an article at Yahoo NZ, an hour os so ago, now its gone, nothing on CNN.

It was about Ban 2.0, the second version of his 7 nation ban, that has been revised, about a Judge is stepping in over a mother and child that will be detained. I just skimmed the first paragraph then went back. and not there

Found these

Now that idiot mouthpiece Spicer is saying that Herr Trumpy didn't really mean "wire tapping" when he was Tweeting about "wire tapping."

How frigging stupid does he think we all are? surprised

More weasel words from the White House. Apparently there is now an 'alternative fact' definition of wiretapping, as in wiretapping doesn't actually mean wiretapping, at least when Trump says it. This as he tries to worm out of the hole he dug for himself before he is forced to put up or shut up. Presidential credibility takes another hit, not that there was any left anyway.

Woman somewhat harasses Spicer in an Apple store.

Spicer tells her: "Such a great country that allows you to be here"

It's all too easy to imagine the fireside chats at the Whitehouse.
