I can't quote for some reason, no quote button.

I can't see any swinging swords. Apart from NK.

We can talk to NK as has happened. Deal if food and oil, reduce sanctions. Then it starts over.

United Korea? That would be great but NK doesn't want that as that's basically a regime change. China won't as it's a Korea managed by SK.

It takes time for talk and agreements to work. Northern Ireland and the IRA/UDA etc is a good example. Disarmament talks were derailed by both sides several times and got back on track. It takes a lot of commitment to go back to the table.

USA under Bush walked away. That was a big mistake in my opinion.

Mike Pence has upped the ante standing on an aircraft carrier saying USA will respond to conventional weapons use also. This means there is now a context for USA to respond to any border exchange. It's a very minor incremental change, but there is no doubt it is an escalation in tension.

Yeah let's talk about it. After all NK is no more than annoying, it's the US that is being hard nosed year in and year out.
Talk to poor NK and get this sorted

tdgeek:

Yeah let's talk about it.

Never heard Trump string together a coherent argument for anything - but he's great on abuse and threats.

Oh - and bombs.

He's saved Syria and brought peace to Afghanistan recently.

My comment was obviously facetious. NK talk about it? Never.

It isn't a Trump issue anyway. If Trump did something ok, normal, standard, bau you would cut him down. If he did something g good, you would cut him down. I am well aware of his many faults but there is no discussion if the bias is this extreme

As to Syria, many have no issue there, for what was a very very very small token response. NK is the same. Everything there that was commented by Trump or the WH and action, is a small fraction of what comes from NK.

It's fine to hate Trump, hate the US, but it's not a great discussion if it's only about venting that. And for some here that's what it is.

Your comment was sarcastic.

You're supporting Trump's sabre-rattling stance based on ignorance:

The two Koreas have talked about unification in the past.

Don't call me ignorant and don't call me a supporter.

This Trump hate is obsessive to say the least. It's ridiculous. More than ridiculous.

I'll take back the comment about "supporter", but not the one about ignorance.

You've stated several times that DPRK won't "talk" - when it's very clear that they have talked in the past.  The highest polling candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, Moon Jae-in, is in favour of reestablishing talks re unification.  He's stated that if elected then his first foreign visit will be to DPRK.

You seem to want to believe Trump's world-view without question or claiming that criticism of his perpetuation of US republican sabre-rattling foreign policy is mere "hating".

There's some damned good reasons for continual criticism of Trump.  He is evil.

Regarding the AP interview, I'll assume Trump isn't completely detached from reality, or on some powerful drugs.

From Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_lie

"A big lie is a propaganda technique. The expression was coined by Adolf Hitler, when he dictated his 1925 book Mein Kampf, about the use of a lie so 'colossal' that no one would believe that someone 'could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.'"

That SK wants to talk is expected as they want unification. NK doesn't. China doesn't as they don't want more US in Asia.
The recent US action in Syria and NK is supported by the west. If this was any other POTUS they would also support what are very small actions against these two countries. So it's not a Trump issue. It's a US issue that existed decades ago. Personally I would favour the US pulling out of everywhere. Let another power take the heat for sabre rattling, or maybe leave these hotspots to themselves.

But while I do not like or support Trump you can't use him as a whipping boy when it suits. When he does something there that is outside the bounds of what a normal POTUS or the US would do, then call him out.

Call me ignorant if you wish but I look at this as an issue in NK or where it might be, and assess where it sits as a West or US or Trump. While I'd like to blame Trump there is no blame. Syria and NK words and actions from him or the US are meek to date. Or they should pull out and let them do what they want.

tdgeek: NK doesn't.

Sure they don't want talks.  They told you this - right?

I expect that as support from PRC is being pulled back, then they'd want more assurance that the USA would get the hell out of there.

DPRK's reason for paranoia - as meat in a sandwich - is somewhat justified, and Trump's sabre-rattling does nothing but aggravate a difficult situation.
