Just when you were sure it couldn't get any worse...

Mooted - apparently by The Whiter House - FBI directorship to either Rudy Giuliani or Chris Christie.

Rudy says it definitely won't be him - which would seem to make him a front runner.

Christie will be relieved - he won't have to worry about freighting his specially built office chair to Washington.

Christie is pretty well tainted with the George Washington Bridge closure back in 2013 and the cover up..

He is assured of the position then tongue-out

I just read up on Christie and in particular BridgeGate. Executive summary: he's a vindictive prick who happily screws over the citizenry to harm his (Democratic) political opponents. A thoroughly nasty piece of work. yellcrysurprised

He was a candidate for POTUS until BridgeGate surfaced, and might also have been considered as Trump's VP if not for that.

Musing: It seems to me likely that, after the Obama family departed, a Drumpf staffer would have been immediately ordered to ensure that every member of the Much Whiter House Secret Service team was prepared to give their life, if necessary, to protect the new President.

I'm sure this must have been done, given the Orange One's level of paranoia over anything Obama.

If so, it raises a bunch of questions. Like, are these guys required to disclose their political leanings on appointment to the Secret Service?

Hmm. I wonder how many Secret Service Agents, given this weird anything-goes-and-nothing-matters culture of 2017, would actually take a bullet for this man.

Trump has also now said that he was going to fire him regardless of any recommendations. This is in stark contrast to what his letter to Comey said, and to what the White House has said.

Will it be Watergate 2.0 or Trumpgate?  Lot of similarities, firing staff as a cover up

Politics are far more partisan over there now, so Trump may actually get away with any alleged wrongdoings on his part.

It's becoming increasingly hard to deny that Trump is corrupt, and possibly even a traitor to his country. But the Republicans are putting party before country, so the extent of this may not actually ever come to light.

There are so many alarm bells about this unpresidented President, but he seems to be given a free pass at every turn by the very institutions set up to protect the US from the kind of leader that Trump is shaping up to be.

FBI to continue Trump-Russia probe but will not update White House

The acting head of the FBI [Andrew McCabe] has said the agency will continue to investigate alleged links between Russia and Donald Trump's campaign – but will not routinely update the White House.

But Mr McCabe did vow to tell the Senate Intelligence Committee if the White House tried to interfere with the bureau’s Russia probe – though he asserted that there had “been no effort to impede our investigation to date”.

Firing them isn't in itself the action which will take the POTUS down the path to impeachment.

Losing support will - and despite everything, polls showing the core support of ~40% Trumpists seems unaffected by whatever he does.
The firing of Comey seems to have resulted in a drop of support from 40% to 38% (Gallup), but with a margin of error of +/- 3 points, it's not significant.

Um... except maybe firing the guy in charge of the investigation?
