OK - this statistic from Alexa is interesting:

Which sites did people visit immediately before this site? (the nazi site referred to above)

Site Percent of Unique Visits   1.  google.com 11.7%   2.  youtube.com 9.4%   3.  facebook.com 3.2%   4.  twitter.com 2.5%   5.  reddit.com 2.1%

I'm not sure about social media's role.  Of course we all get an extremely biased view of what's going on out there - not hard to guess that there's never any alt-right news to be seen on my FB page.

I suppose that in the like attracts like way it works, then if you're that way (alt-right) inclined, then you're going to be reinforced through your social media feed - but I don't know 'cause I don't see it.

The % of previous page held by google/youtube - compared to social media does make me wonder about the Alphabet motto "do the right thing".  OTOH I'm also not in favour of censorship in general - especially if corporates get to decide what we do and don't see.

It is a real dilemma. Should there be limits to free speech? In fact, there already are, but how far should they go? Who gets to decide them? What about democracy? Does it inevitably lead to populism and Alt-Right and Trump? Do we need a system more like Singapore's? Or maybe Venezuela? How do you draw the line?

I don't think there is ever a bad time to talk about how absurd war is, how old men make decisions and young people die. - George Clooney

It isn't a dilemma. Without free speech you don't get democracy. Simple as that. If you value democracy you will hear people saying things you don't like. Guaranteed.

It was funny to watch the expressions of the people not talking: a mixture of disdain and disbelief

There doesn't seem to be much support for preserving the right to free-speech for terrorists like ISIL.

I'm not sure why self-proclaimed supporters of the regime that resulted in the worst genocide in human history should expect us to protect their "right" to free speech.

Because only protecting the rights of the people you like is exactly what people like them do.

It is possible that Mr Trump could visit here as part of APEC in 2021. Should be riveting and I for one can't wait to see the him...lol

I can foresee the protest planning starting already.

I'd be very surprised if Trump is still in power then. The evidence seems to be mounting at an ever increasing rate on the Russian collusion front. The below Twitter thread is an excellent analysis on the latest to emerge today.

What does that matter whether he's in power or not? I don't see any sign of him not being in power.

Having the USA run by authoritarian american so-called christian evangelists, headed by President Pence doesn't do a lot for me.

Less chance of war with Korea perhaps, but a very big step closer to "The Handmaid's Tale".

The interesting conclusion I came to, after watching the unrelenting CNN US, MSNBC and Fox US news feeds on this over the past few days, is that we have opposing sides filled with pure vicious anger and blind hate. Alt right, alt left, liberal lefties, right swingers? They are all as bad as each other!

It is so sad to see what is going on, slowly spreading outside the US and infesting some good social media and discussion sites. Sad indeed.

By that are you trying to suggest that CNN, MSNBC are promoting vicious anger as an "opposing side" to Trump's behaviour?

No - they're not "as bad as each other".

Forgetting policy or position - left or right - Trump is a dirty filthy liar.  It's that simple.  That some don't like to be told that their President is a dirty filthy liar doesn't change the fact that he is.

I'm pleased that at least outside the US, condemnation of Trump is nearly unanimous.  If social media has a part in that - then good job.
