TRUMP WARNS THAT PRESIDENT OPRAH WOULD FORCE AMERICANS TO READ

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Donald J. Trump issued a stark warning to the nation on Monday that, if elected President, Oprah Winfrey would force Americans to read.

“This is a woman who, every chance she got, told people to join her book club,” Trump told reporters. “If she were President, you better believe that she would make every single American join that book club.”

Claiming that Winfrey “never met a book she didn’t like,” Trump accused her of planning to institute an “individual book mandate,” which would require non-reading Americans to pay as much as two thousand dollars a year for refusing to read a book.

“People were worried about Obama coming to their homes and taking away their guns,” Trump said. “Oprah will come to your homes and leave books there, which is far, far worse.”

Joining Trump in his remarks was the Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, who warned about the dangers of Winfrey’s pro-book agenda.

“I am a firm believer in school choice,” DeVos said. “And central to that is the choice not to read.”

House Intelligence Committee set up in order to "prove" that there was no evidence of collusion, concluded proceedings by stating that they couldn't find evidence - because they knew there was no evidence in the places they chose to look.

Choosing not to interview Manafort, Gates, Flynn, and Papadopoulos was a masterstroke, ignoring expert testimony from the CIA, FBI, and NSA to instead assert the ridiculous claim that the Russian interference in the election "didn't favour Trump" sealed the deal.

On to greater things now, crush the evil Mueller investigation "witch hunt", don't do anything about expected Russian interference in the midterm elections, because even if that happened, it "won't favour Trump".

What was Russia doing to interfere?
I guess this is not a thing anymore then:

That's what Republicans say. It does not mean anything because it is partisan. Wait for the FBI results.

Regardless of what the FBI find now, it's to be hoped that their current actions, and\or conclusions, will result in a genuine result in the mid-terms.

freitasm: That's what Republicans say. It does not mean anything because it is partisan. Wait for the FBI results.

They've (GOP) attacked the FBI (and CIA) who have expressed opinion that while they don't have hard evidence of collusion, the focus of the Russian intervention was to damage Clinton and enhance Trump.  They also claim that the intervention was a coordinated Russian (government) programme - not as the GOP and Putin would like people to believe that it may or may not have been Russian citizens.

Of course it was partisan, but there's even more incentive now for the WH to discredit and try to shut down the Mueller Special Council investigation.  That's not just to take the heat off the subject coming up to the midterm elections, but as Mueller digs deeper, what he uncovers could see some criminal charges laid against Trump's present team.

Trump likes to call it a witch hunt, despite 4 guilty pleas so far from 8 charges (excluding the charges against the Russian organisation and individuals know to have coordinated the attacks).

Trump dipped out on the popular vote by - what was it? 3.5m?

Experts suggest this figure could have been closer to 20m-25m without the Russian interference.

Which would likely have wrecked his electoral college figures.

No wonder the egomaniac refuses to believe he didn't make it by himself.

I wish it wasn't the case, but that's unprovable - even if I also believe it's probably true.

Personally, I'd put the figure at 100m.

BTW: Trump has fired Tillerson. Wait for it...by Tweet.

I'm intrigued by the POTUS approach to Russia, for example:

Trump: "It sounds to me like they believe it was Russia — or someone else."

vs

Tillerson denounced the poisoning of a former spy in the United Kingdom as "an egregious act" that "clearly came from Russia" He added that he had "become extremely concerned about Russia," arguing that after spending a year trying to work together with Russia on a number of issues, "we didn’t get very far. Instead what we’ve seen is a pivot on their part to be more aggressive."Tillerson added, "And this is very, very concerning to me and others, that there seems to be a certain unleashing of activity that we don’t fully understand what the objective behind that is. And if in fact this attack in the U.K. is the work of the Russian government, this is a pretty serious action."

Note that Tillerson's comments were made after he'd been advised that he was being sacked - but before his sacking was announced to the public.

It gets worse, apparently. Tillerson was rung by John Kelly to say to watch out for a tweet from Trump concerning him.

It gets even worse still. Tillerson's top aide, Steve Goldstein, was fired 12 hours ago for contradicting the official White House account of how Tillerson was fired.
