Stan:

What has the Alt-right have to do with anything?

Everything. The alt-right in general sponsors hate, misogyny, racism, anti-semitism and curbing of rights. It's a fascist movement that should have no space in modern society of intelligent people.

Stan:

Fred are you a member of antifa generally curious?

I will retort. Are you a member of the alt-right?

DaveB:

I stated earlier in this thread - Trumps support comes from a supporter base who see a liberal leaning social and leftie lib leaning mainstream media continuing to moan about an election result and life in general.

The "mainstream media" does not moan about election result. This is done and dusted.

Trump supporters on the other hand love whataboutism. Anything wrong that's found on Trump's side they come with "What about her emails?", "What about Uranium One?", and other things that are already proven to be nothing.

Trump supporters in general are the ones still running an election campaign - something they should be over it.

DaveB:

If the Leftie Libs kept quiet, Trumps support would probably plummet reasonably quickly. At this rate, he will probably do two terms - but his supporters can only take part of the credit. The Libs will have to take the rest. Yes, most of them are good people. They are not as defined in this thread - they are quite the opposite.

"If the Lefti Libs kept quiet" is the argument of fascists. It means to put the blame on someone else. It's the argument of those who think not everyone should put their opinions out there.

I will tell you what. I believe Trump supporters would have no problem removing the 1st Ammendment (free speech) if it meant no critics of their government, while fighting for the rights to keep their shiny guns.

Im officially a member of the New Zealand Communist party and they said they would cancel my membership if I joined the alt right./s

Seriously though freitasm.

 freitasm:

For all involved. While I did give a concession to invoke Godwin's Law when talking about Trump, there will be no space on Geekzone to discuss political ideologies that support racism in any form. Alt-right, White Identitarian, whatever name you give to these, there will be no discussion about this type of despicable theories and political discourse.

That's final.

Are you opening this up for further discussion now?

No it is not open for discussion. If anyone supports or identify themselves with a fascist movement they have no right to be here.

Meanwhile, back at the asylum:

CNN - Trump's disgraceful investigation order via Twitter may haunt him

extracts:

Early Sunday afternoon President Donald Trump elevated Twitter to a virtual Cabinet position in his administration.

He used it, rather than the attorney general, to order a possible criminal investigation of a counterintelligence operation conducted by the Department of Justice and the FBI.

The President tweeted:

This may be the first Department of Justice criminal investigation ordered via Twitter feed. ...

Rather than waiting for the President to make his "demand" official, as promised in the Twitter feed, Rosenstein pulled the trigger immediately, ordering the inspector general to investigate the matter. ...

In the end, Trump's attempt to embarrass his own Department of Justice and FBI is likely to wound only his own presidency.

Sunday's Twitter order to commence a new investigation to smear the Obama administration is likely to backfire and extend the Mueller investigation.

It may also cause Mueller to look at an interesting new idea - was the presidential order to commence such a frivolous investigation itself really an attempt to block the progress of the Mueller investigation and obstruct justice?

Question: Is Trump just stupid, or is he a smart man pretending to be stupid?

This is an interesting older article from the NYT and well worth the read.

Mr. Medford should be a natural ally for liberals trying to convince the country that Mr. Trump was a bad choice. But it is not working out that way. Every time Mr. Medford dips into the political debate — either with strangers on Facebook or friends in New York and Los Angeles — he comes away feeling battered by contempt and an attitude of moral superiority.
“We’re backed into a corner,” said Mr. Medford, 46, whose business teaches people to be filmmakers. “There are at least some things about Trump I find to be defensible. But they are saying: ‘Agree with us 100 percent or you are morally bankrupt. You’re an idiot if you support any part of Trump.’ ”
He added: “I didn’t choose a side. They put me on one.”

Liberals may feel energized by a surge in political activism, and a unified stance against a president they see as irresponsible and even dangerous. But that momentum is provoking an equal and opposite reaction on the right.

I don't think anyone here identifies as fascist. I certainly hope not. I hope you don't get banned because I don't want this to become an echo chamber. Different points of view are valuable and I hope we all are sufficiently mature to respect them. I don't agree with a lot of  what you say, but I will defend to the limit of my ability to flee in terror your right to express it. I truly hope we can all get along here.

No different than when greedy people get to power. Fundamentalist evangelicals and extreme right hijacked the Republican party. Now that they have power they won't let it go even if it means... Trump.

At no point in that quote I mentioned you by name.

I already said it before, don't try to be a victim.

If at any point anyone starts promoting the ideology as mentioned then that is an instant ban.

This may be off subject, but the US Libertarian party has been called extreme left-wing and extreme right-wing at the same time.

Members tend to be white and very well-educated.

It's hard to pin these guy's down. For instance some Libertarians believe all drugs should be legal.

Some are extremely isolationist, saying all overseas US bases should be dismantled, and all US troops pulled back to the US.

Most believe there should be almost no government regulations on anything.

They are also extremely pro-free speech.

So a strange group.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarianism_in_the_United_States

"Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties."

“I love Meryl Streep, but you know, she robbed me of that wonderful feeling when I go to the movies to be entertained,” she said. “I told my husband, I said, ‘Ed, we have to be a little more flexible, or we’re going to run out of movies!’ ”

LOL - that's so unbelievably lame.  Nobody should really care about what actors say or believe off screen. Some of them are madder than a box of snakes - Tom Cruise managed to consolidate extremely crazy ideology with a successful career, mostly nobody seemed to care.

I'm sure there may be some things about Trump that are defensible.  Hitler was great for the economy and the arts.

That article is no different from what other GOP apologists for Trump have been arguing "give him a fair go".  Nope - he's a liar, racist, misogynist, saboteur of the environment, destroyer of treaties, corrupt, militarist, bully.
