freitasm: The investigation has not finished and no report is out yet. Anything Trump and Giuliani say is nothing until it closes.

There have already been 5 guilty pleas and 22 indictments - yet from that survey 59% of the US public seem to be unaware that the Mueller enquiry has uncovered anything.

Of course Trump and Giuliani are full of lies, but the fake news media are lapping it up and thereby facilitating the hijacking of democracy.  That is what's happening.

Are you looking forward to his second term?

That comment is perfectly consistent with pro-Trump trolling on Twitter etc.

the Trump supporters will still be genuflecting and heaping their adoration as he is transported off to jail.

This is what amazes me most with a lot of Kiwis. Because you do not kneel to their expectation of total acceptance - you must be the enemy! Weird.

You say a lot (and I mean a lot) of things in support of - or apologizing for Trump and/or supporters - and get challenged on those opinions.

I suggest you stop bleating about it as if you're being persecuted.

History tends to show that once there's a significant change, people's memory starts failing them.  They "forget" that they were once a ***** supporter.

The more controversial the leader, the greater the fall.  Trump isn't starting from a good position either - Nixon once had far higher approval ratings than Trump has ever enjoyed.

More accurate "opinion piece" reporting - like the following - needs to be put right in the face of the US public.

This morning, President Trump uncorked a series of tweets about how the “Corrupt Deep State” has been caught in a “major SPY scandal” that could prove to be “one of the biggest political scandals in history.”

This comes as the investigation he’s railing about continues to generate new revelations. Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III is examining yet another Trump Tower meeting, at which Trump’s son was reportedly open to accepting campaign help from Gulf state princes. Meanwhile, the business partner of Trump’s longtime fixer Michael Cohen has flipped on him.

In short, Trump’s latest tweets show him concocting crazy conspiracy theories in the face of an investigation that is closing in on him, his family and his cronies. Why is he doing this? Because the investigation, in tandem with dogged media digging, has already produced evidence of Trump campaign collusion with a foreign power to subvert our democracy and allegations of mind-boggling levels of corruption, which include Trump corruptly going to extraordinary lengths to subvert the workings of justice, with the active help of Republicans in Congress.

Here is an even more accurate opinion piece

Which "ObamaGate"?

The one where Trump accuses Obama of tapping his Trump Tower phones before the Election?

https://www.snopes.com/news/2017/03/04/trump-accuses-obama-of-tapping-phones/

And then the FBI issued a warrant after confirming it?

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/fbi-arrest-warrant-obama/

Please someone remind me how those charges worked out.

Lock him up!

Anyone who is interested should definitely read this. According to this report, Cohen is up to his eyeballs in corrupt practices in Ukraine. Amongst other things, he is reported to have been paid $400,000 or more to arrange a meeting between Trump and the Ukrainian president, which also apparently resulted in Ukraine dropping an investigation into Manafort. The corruption here absolutely stinks to high heaven.

A federal district court judge on Wednesday ruled that President Trump can't block people from viewing his Twitter feed over their political views.
Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald, of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, said President Trump’s Twitter account is a public forum and blocking people who reply to his tweets with differing opinions constitutes viewpoint discrimination, which violates the First Amendment.

Live by the sword...
I understand that this ruling means if Trump continues to block twitter users, he'll have committed an impeachable offense.
(This opposed to any private persons right to block users, or twitter's right to block / ban users who breach twitter T&C)

There has been 2 years of rational and thoughtful discussion.  It hasn't worked.

The Democrats need to get gloves off and target very hard:

1) Trump's administration is corrupt - rotten to the core.  Remind the electorate mercilessly of every aspect to this.

2) Vote.  Fewer than 30% of eligible voters put Trump in power.  Remind the electorate how a racist campaign designed to deter black voters was put in place to great effect by people at the very top of the Trump 2016 campaign.

If that offends "moderate" Trumpists - too bad.

1) I agree

2) Also agree

But attack Trump and his policies, don't vilify the moderate supporters.

EDIT: To clarify, I don't know that Trump himself is capable of rational and thoughtful discussion, but I' sure many of his supporters are. It's not just about getting new votes against Trump, it's about swaying previous Trump voters the other way.

CNN - Donald Trump turned a rumor into a full-blown government conspiracy in just 5 days

Trump has invented "SPYGATE".

Why? Because it not only fits into his preconceived beliefs but also helps him politically.

Well worth reading but hard to summarise.

The concluding paragraph:

What's remarkable about this spying "scandal" then is not that Trump has embraced it - but rather the speed with which he has done so.
On Thursday night, this wasn't even a twinkle in his eye. Now, Trump is declaring it "one of the biggest scandals in history."
