And China is undercutting the US, so its clear this is only a US issue and only the US can resolve it, and a war in China's backyard is their problem.

He is just your average American with a world view that is, well ........... very American. As you say, protector of the world.

A great pity. I know many Americans they don't reflect Trump. In NZ, I'd say the people are not distant from politics. We are all Kiwis. Irrespective of your party. In the US its the same, but its ALL about Trump. But of you are there, many think as we do in this thread.

Trump grants pardon for Jack Johnson something that George Bush and Barack Obama refused to do. The chance to do something that made Obama look bad was probably part of the motivation for Trump. Obama's refusal to pardon was supposedly to do with Johnson having physically abused women. In my opinion this is a poor excuse for doing nothing as Johnson was imprisoned by a racist piece of legislation. Am I surprised at Obama doing nothing? Absolutely not. It is failure to act when he could have done so that infuriated people such as Jessie Jackson on many occasions.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?ex_cid=rrpromo

fivethirtyeight.com has graphs comparing Trump's popularity versus other presidents. Have a look at Eisenhower's - in eight years he hardly dipped under 50%.

GW Bush's graph for eight years looks like the graph for a  stock market crash.

Here is Eisenhower's

It looks like Trump has thoroughly snookered himself on North Korea - I wouldn't even say this time that the US was "played" by NK - if Trump had simply shut up his stupid face, held back on his impulsive twitter rants, and thought very carefully about how playing the bully would play out...

Trump's response to his complete and utter cock up on North Korea policy - an epic twitter rant this morning against the New York Times, Obama, Mueller.

As if Moon and Kim didn't always know they were dealing with an idiot:

“Look, having nuclear — my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart — you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I’m one of the smartest people anywhere in the world — it’s true! — but when you’re a conservative Republican they try — oh, do they do a number — that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune — you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged — but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me — it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what’s going to happen and he was right — who would have thought?), but when you look at what’s going on with the four prisoners — now it used to be three, now it’s four — but when it was three and even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years — but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us.”

Supposedly to do with...?

Johnson met Etta Terry Duryea, a Brooklyn socialite and former wife of Clarence Duryea, at a car race in 1909. In 1910, Johnson hired a private investigator to follow Duryea after suspecting she was having an affair with his chauffeur. On Christmas day, Johnson confronted Duryea and beat her so badly she was hospitalized. They reconciled and were married in January 1911. Prone to depression, her condition worsened because of Johnson's abuse and infidelity. She committed suicide in September 1912, shooting herself.

NK and SK meet again, apparently to discuss Trump and the summit.

Tell me, why does the US have to be involved? Can NK and SK come to an agreement so they can push forward, without requiring US support or US involvement? Lets assume NK and SK dont care of there are 20,000 troops in SK. IMO they are just there for the sake of a US presence. And lets assume China will be friendly with SK

O.K. I should have researched that more. However, it does not dilute the reason for the pardon. It did give Obama and previous presidents a bad reason for not granting a pardon. Jessie Jackson had little time for Obama & at one meeting was overheard saying he'd like to reduce the size of Obama's anatomy!

Even if this is the outcome, Trump sees a big political opportunity & possible Nobel Peace prize if he can claim the 'deal of the century' & preferably a month or two before the USA mid term elections. So I think he will want to be very much involved.

Jesse Jackson was a Baptist minister.  Regardless of his views on race, all baptists I know tend to lean patriarchal and authoritarian.

Honestly - I think Trump was probably advised to grant this pardon for a couple of reasons, revenge against Obama - but probably also that doing that has potential to incite a (racially) divisive discussion.

I think Obama was wise - not to risk elevating such a person to hero status - something a pardon tends to do.

Yes, I realise he will want to be the man, but can NK, SK go it alone? I guess they may need UN support at some point

Of course - but he now has to take a deep breath, revise demands for preconditions, and stop the hawkish threats.

There's no chance Trump will ever get a Nobel prize.  2017 winner of the peace prize was ICAN - it would be a spectacular turnaround if the Nobel Committee awarded the prize to the leader of a hawkish administration who'd sabotaged one nuclear treaty, issued threats to use nuclear weapons, given large increases in funding to a massive military machine - including for a program to increase the capability of their nuclear arsenal.

It won't happen.

"...the fact that the only Collusion is with the Dems, Justice, FBI & Russia"  ?????

That's seriously insane talk.  Not a "bit crazy" or "sucked in by a CT" - it's dangerous delusional psychotic ranting.
