Fox and Friends Freudian Slip on video: "Anthony, talk to us about this moment,” she said, turning to Scaramucci. “This is history. We are living — regardless of what happens in that meeting between the two dictators — what we are seeing right now, this is historic."

This story on The New York Times explains a lot about Trump's attitude to Canada. Also interesting she mentions Hitler and his raise to power:

Freeland said she had recently come across a “terrifying” quote from Adolf Hitler, explaining his rise to power in Germany in a time of economic uncertainty and grievance. “I will tell you what has carried me to the position I have reached,” Hitler had said. “Our political problems appeared complicated. The German people could make nothing of them. ... I, on the other hand ... reduced them to the simplest terms. The masses realized this and followed me.”

She leaned forward, a look of concern in her eyes. “How do you attract voters and public support compared with the flashiness of exciting, chaotic, fact-ignoring populism?” she asked. “The reason Hitler won was because all of the other politicians were giving complicated and difficult explanations about difficult things. Hitler just told people simple things that they wanted to hear.”

If Trump didn't already have a huge "attitude" toward Mexico, it's going to get a LOT worse:

There's a presidential election in Mexico on July 1.

Populism isn't always "right-wing". The leading (by 22 points in polls) candidate - Obrador - is a leftist and populist/economic nationalist - who has vowed to put Trump "in his place".  One of his economic targets is to improve the lot of Mexican farmers, prices aren't high enough for them to make a living against imports of US corn.  Those prices are kept low by US subsidies / minimum price guarantees.

NAFTA is dead.  Things are going to get very ugly.

The 1930s...

Nice article.

Its all well and good that Trump has played his own ego satisfying games. Most of all that has merely caused dismay to us, it hasn't really hurt that much, bizarre as its been. But the G7 was the start of the fall, he showed his cowardice when taken on by real people. Now he is on a loss or loss visit to Singapore, he cannot have that meeting and win. His only "win" is walking away and bashing KJU in the media. KJU will be fine, he will show that he is fine, he doesn't need the US. Trump in fact needs him, to secure a win. It will end in fire and brimstone, figuratively. The end result will be a bunch of countries, including NK, wanting a positive move forward for peace on the peninsula. And there will be one, that doesnt.

I dont buy this world order rubbish.

Might there be a market crash? No, the market will over react as usual.

Its the 12th today, the two leaders have not met yet. Reading a few articles on CNN, it seems everyone else has already decided on the agreement and are discussing terms and issues. How to Back NK into a Corner 101

Editorial - The Guardian view on the US-North Korea summit

Roll up, roll up. There’s “excitement in the air!”, he tweets.

Don’t call it diplomacy. The man doesn’t understand the meaning of the word.

Don’t dignify it as negotiation. He has two modes: bullying and flattery.

Even if concrete steps are agreed, this is, in essence, a spectacle.

The US president will make history when he sits down with the leader of North Korea in Singapore.

But he will do so only in the narrowest sense: that he is doing something unprecedented.

His motives are too egotistical and essentially trivial for lasting progress; and there are good reasons why his predecessors didn’t go first.

... Make the most of the show. Be prepared for the bill.

Trump Kim summit: Full text of the signed statement

Conspicuously absent from this document:

  • Any mention of verification of disarmament
  • The verbal agreement to halt war games with South Korea (without consulting South Korea)

In stunning summit concession, Trump says he will halt Korea war games

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump made a stunning concession to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday about halting military exercises, pulling a surprise at a summit that baffled allies, military officials and lawmakers from his own Republican Party.

Scorecard: Kim 10, Donald 1

Trump's lucky that Kim didn't ask for his left testicle.

During his all over the place press conference, Trump also mentioned in passing that he had a superior memory to go with his superior IQ. This was followed by a blanket of suppressed guffawing that descended over the room for several seconds as those present tried to figure out how to respond. Apparently Trump's superior memory forgot that he couldn't remember (or never learned) the words to America's national anthem.
