Trump resigns before impeachment. Mike Pence pardons him as he may have no wish to campaign for President himself. Something like Gerald Forde.

"'Holy S**t, I Thought Pecker Would Be the Last One to Turn": Trump’s National Enquirer Allies Are the Latest to Defect"

David Pecker and Dylan Howard corroborated Michael Cohen’s account implicating the president in a federal crime. And Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis says there are more revelations to come.

by Gabriel Sherman

"As Robert Mueller’s siege closes in on Donald Trump, the president has been left to wonder which of his staff and closest allies will, after all, stay loyal. On Tuesday, Michael Cohen completed his operatic turn against his former boss when he stood in federal court and pleaded guilty to eight felonies that included making hush-money payments at Trump’s direction to women Trump allegedly had sex with. The admission effectively made Trump an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal crime.

Cohen’s stunning admission came just days after The New York Times reported that White House counsel Don McGahn provided 30 hours of testimony to Mueller’s investigators. McGahn’s extensive cooperation with Mueller rattled the West Wing to the core at a time when aides were struggling to contain the fallout from former Apprentice star Omarosa Manigault Newman’s scathing White House memoir.

And now Trump’s most powerful media ally next to Fox News has broken with him. According to two sources briefed on the Cohen investigation, prosecutors granted immunity to David Pecker, chairman of The National Enquirer publisher American Media Inc., and A.M.I.’s chief content officer, Dylan Howard, so they would describe Trump’s involvement in Cohen’s payments to porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal during the 2016 campaign. The Wall Street Journal first reported Pecker’s cooperation on Wednesday night. (Pecker and Howard did not respond to multiple requests for comment. A spokesperson for the Southern District of New York declined to comment.)

Pecker’s apparent decision to corroborate Cohen’s account, and implicate Trump in a federal crime, is another vivid example of how isolated Trump is becoming as the walls close in and his former friends look for ways out. “Holy sh*t, I thought Pecker would be the last one to turn,” a Trump friend told me when I brought up the news. Trump and Pecker have been close for years. According to the Trump friend, Pecker regularly flew on Trump’s plane from New York to Florida. In July 2013, Trump tweeted that Pecker should become C.E.O. of Time magazine. 'He’d make it exciting and win awards!'"

CNN - Aug 23 - The 36 most outrageous lines in Donald Trump's Fox News interview

extracts (Trump quotes plus CNN editorial commentary):

30. "I don't know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job."

This is the most astounding quote in the entire Trump interview. If you are doing a self-assessed "great job" then it is impossible for you to have broken any laws?
That's literally what Trump is saying here.

31. "I tell you what, if I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash, I think everybody would be very poor."

Remarkable. The self-regard on display here is truly staggering.
The only thing that has made the economy strengthen is Trump, according to Trump. Without him? Good luck, America.

34. "So I give myself an A-plus."

Earhardt asked Trump what grade he would give himself.
That Trump went with the highest possible grade really tells you everything you need to know about him. Seriously.

35. "The only thing ... I'm doing badly on is the press doesn't cover me fairly."

If I had to name my greatest weakness, I think I would probably say it's that I care too much about people.
Or maybe that I am so smart it makes it hard to interact with people not as smart as me. Either one would work.

36. "I would say I would honestly give myself an A-plus and so would many other people."

So many other people. A+s all around!

Democrats have told themselves, focus on the issues not on impreachment. GOP is talking about impeachment, Guilianni say's its about impeachment or non impeachment. Trump and GOP are acknowledging that impeachment is an option, which implies it carries a potential justification, which implies guilt.

GOP must see what's probably coming - and it's not looking good.

I think the Dems are probably doing the right thing by not focusing on impeachment right now.  There's growing confidence that justice will be allowed to run its course.  Despite so much falling apart around him, Trump's support/approval isn't budging.

On the other hand, the Australian Solicitor-General has just delivered his advice that Red Skull is not in violation of the Constitution in regards to his wife's ownership of childcare centres that receive Federal funding. Honestly, that was a long bow to draw in the first place, but it does mean there's a fighting chance that Australia is about to have a smarter, meaner Donald Trump as their new PM.

Not quite. He's *probably* not in violation, but the SG has said they cannot be certain the high court would find differently.

On the facts set out below, in my opinion, in my view is that Mr Dutton is not incapable of sitting as a member of the House of Representatives by reasons of s44(v) of the Constitution. While I consider the position summarised above to represent the better view, it is impossible to state the position with certainty."

Yeah, I saw that clarification on the SMH about 5 minutes after I posted... still, good enough to allow him to make a run for today, and if he wins it would be much harder to get the High Court to consider it.

It's been a great week for Trump. Heh heh.

Now he's even got a problem with his flipping Pecker.
