Acting without 'moral compass' could be levelled at many US presidents and British Prime Ministers.  For example Theresa May and previous prime ministers happily sell weapons to Saudi Arabia knowing full well those weapons are going to be used in civil wars. State visits are organised for leaders from repressive countries in the Middle East.  Tony Blair is a war monger & a disgrace.  Britain  is happy to export weaponry to anyone who can pay.

Then going on to the USA. Lyndon Johnson covered up the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty & did so because of campaign contributions from the Jewish lobby in the USA.  Bill Clinton was without any moral compass taking advantage of a young intern. Bill Clinton was a poll & dollar driven scumbag who did nothing for the US worker. Then onto George Bush starting two wars, destabilising the whole middle east, and wasting trillions of dollars on wars that he told lies about and got Colin Powell to tell lies about. Then onto Obama. Stepping up of drone attacks on Pakistan - killing innocent civilians.  Apart from a hugely flawed health scheme Obama achieved nothing for the US working class.

I have been watching discussions of latest events on CNN and there seem to be hints that the op-ed (and other things) might be setting Trump up for an effective 'soft coup' by evangelicals to replace Trump with Pence (their ultimate goal). In other words, are we about to see the emergence of the Handmaid's Tale? This whole business is so weird and unprecedented that frankly nothing would surprise me, up to and including full-blown civil war. It is bizarre beyond any work of fiction.

It will probably depend on how the mid-terms go. If the Democrats make big gains then the Republicans would have a reason to move against him to try to head off any further action which might impact beyond Trump and his family. Also if Pence becomes president after Jan 21 next year it won't count as a term for the term limits so could potentially be there for ten years.

If the Republicans stay strong after the mid-terms then they won't do anything about him as he is obviously helping their popularity.

Jimmy Kimmel Knows Who Wrote NY Times Op-Ed on Trump

The New York Times published an anonymous op-ed written by a current member of Trump’s senior administration. There is a lot of speculation about who wrote this ...

Thinking about this some more, what bothers me most is the apparent breakdown of the rule of law. I detest Trump and everything he seems to represent. I despise most of those who support him, especially now. But I believe he did win the election according to the rules and he remains the leader of the USA. If people in positions of authority and official responsibility are truly working behind the scenes to undermine him, that is effectively a coup and it represents an extremely dangerous unravelling of due process and the rule of law. It demonstrates a breakdown of discipline that could result in a complete collapse of government, maybe even a military takeover. Trump is manifestly unfit to be president and he should be removed as a matter of urgency, but if it is not done according to proper procedure then the cure is worse than the disease. Establishing a precedent of overthrowing unfit leaders is an extremely bad idea for any democracy, but especially one with the power and baggage of the USA.

CNN - John Kerry: 'This is a genuine constitutional crisis'  [video]

Former Secretary of State John Kerry said the country faces "a genuine constitutional crisis" following Bob Woodward's reporting on President Donald Trump's dysfunctional White House and the unnamed senior administration official's op-ed assailing Trump in The New York Times on Wednesday.

"We have a presidency which is off the rails," Kerry told Anderson Cooper on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360."

"We have a President who is not capable of doing the job, who clearly has these temper tantrums, doesn't know enough to be making many of the decisions he makes."

"This is unbelievable," Kerry said, and said the constitutional "crisis" is heightened because Republican senators are defending, "not the Constitution, not the institution of the Senate - they're defending party and the President, who simply doesn't know what he's doing."

It's terminal presidential crisis #591, excluding pre-election crises that should have seen him consigned to the dustbin of failed candidates.

It's not that some of his candidates "don't care" or "don't know" what happened - they interpret it as proof of deep state undermining the God Emperor, treasonous collusion with the NYT.

It's not going to impact on Trump's approval rating, and while that remains at ~40%, the chance of him being impeached is almost zero.

A short but unusual video from the Washington Post.

You can sense the anger at the anonymous source, who they strongly imply that he enable Trump to be President, but is trying to paint themselves as a patriot.

FWIW I agree that Trump is terrible, but as I said in my last little rant about British prime ministers and USA presidents I have a very low opinion of just about all of them.  Almost every recent president and prime minister has been complicit in disgusting and morally bankrupt policies. Are any of them much better than say Putin or the dictators in Africa and other countries?  Almost every recent prime minister of Britain or president of the United States has been a scumbag with a veneer of democracy laid over the top.

I don't know much about Judge Kavanaugh, but he certainly comes across as an obsequious Yes-Man ....

We are a superpower run by a simpleton

The latest Washington Post Op-ed - extracts ...

One of the major problems with President Trump’s impulsivity is its utter predictability. ...

Trump pursues no deep or subtle strategies. He does not even consistently seek his own interests.

He responds like a child or a narcissist to positive or negative stimulation.

It is the reason a discussion on “Fox & Friends” can so often set the agenda of the president.

It is the reason that Trump’s lawyers, in the end, can’t allow him to be interviewed by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III. It would be like a 9-year-old defending a PhD dissertation. ...

Here is the increasingly evident reality of the Trump era: We are a superpower run by a simpleton.

From a foreign policy perspective, this is far worse than being run by a skilled liar.  It is an invitation to manipulation and contempt. ...

Whatever the president is doing, most Republicans want more of it ... a motivated group of Americans - which largely controls the GOP nomination process - enjoys Trump’s reality-television version of presidential politics. ...

Just watched one of them!  At the start of the video one of the girls got his name completely right (apart from adding the expletive!)
