He is using the same tactic. Loud, creating issues and then having a solution. Noise noise noise. He is everywhere, he occupies all the talk and media, mentions of the Democrat candidates are buried in articles about Trump. One article on CC US Politics page said Obama will be helping two Demo candidates. Thats the only Democrat name I see or have pretty much heard of. Seems bizarre that a party has no leader in terms of a household name.

Turnout is the key.

@Bluntj:

Trump is an evil genius. Look what job he has! Only ever been 45. Yes he has used people and lied to get to where he is..but he got there. Like it or hate it..he is the man and history will never forget.

Remember for there to be a right there has to be a left and a centre. In this case the right won because they got the most votes. In NZ the party that got the most votes didnt win.

Trump lost the popular vote, and only won because they actually use an electoral college system that delivered more delegates for him.

Very different system from New Zealand and you should know better.

It's even different from Brazil where it's a simple majority of direct votes in two rounds with the top two on the second round if no one gets the majority on the first try.

USA having completely unelected ministers of state is one of the most bizzare aspects to me.

The founders of America rejected the idea of a king because they wanted to move away from that, but they gave the president king-like powers because that was what was familiar to them.

Some of his tactics are no different from the Bush Jr era and don't forget how we thought he would usher in the end of the world.

Broadcasting lies about your opposition is the main strategy used. In the Bush days there would be a retraction of a sort a few days later probably buried on the inside pages of the WP but these days, with peoples attention span reduced to minutes by news and social media, they don't bother with the retraction.

And the other rule? He who shouts loudest wins.

His time will pass just like it did for McCarthy, Nixon, Bush, Marcos, Ceausescu  and all the other nut jobs and dictators who though they were starting a movement or dynasty.

I was really just trying to say in a round about way that America did vote for Trump in a massive way and he did win. Even though I despise the man he made it to probably the top position on the planet. You do need a lot of money and reasonable amount of genius to get that far in this world. When a man like him still has an approval rating as high as his, he must be doing something very right in the eyes of the people who vote for him.

Yes it is a very different system to NZ, but for us to be stranded with a guy like Winston as Deputy PM when he received so few votes, something isnt right here as well. I am not stating facts, just merely my opinion which clearly is very flawed based on the response.

And if you keep serving lies and more lies and more lies, they will be perceived as "there must be something in it" so they start to be accepted by a lot of the masses

I know its mid terms and not an election per say, but its like one party and its campaigning leader vs another party with no campaigning leader, and therefore less of a voice.

Idiots attempt to frame investigator Robert Mueller for sexual assault.

Not safe for work.Rough language

I'd like to personally thank Trump for accidently cleaning of the swamp by allowing fellow dbags a platform to expose themselves. In this case, the lawyer literally exposed himself as his pants fly was down during the entire press conference. A pity none of the reporters told him ;)

It's also worth considering that there doesn't seem to be anyone else around with the same type of persona to carry on the 'crusade' after Trump has gone. You need a personality like his to appeal to his voter base and possible candidates like Pence simply aren't it. There may be backroom zealots like Bannon pressing the buttons but you need the showman out front shouting the message.

Unless someone new crawls out of the woodwork the aberration that is his presidency comes to an end when he does.

It won't matter who that someone new is if the institutions of government have become fascist in all but name. That seems to be the direction they are headed.

If a moderate or progressive president was elected he/she would install their own people in the various departments and, just like what has happened with Trump', they would  follow the new agenda as would their departments. You would need another far right candidate to be elected to carry on in the current manner.

No doubt while Obama was in power the various departments became somewhat progressive (at least for America). Look how the current incumbent has changed that and that will happen again with the next president.

You are assuming the current incumbent plays by the rules, and doesn't change them.

Donald Trump's use of Game of Thrones meme to announce Iran sanctions rankles HBO

When US President Donald Trump took the unusual step of using a Game-of-Thrones-inspired meme to announce the restoration of oil sanctions for Iran, HBO - which produces the TV series - was not amused.

The former reality show star tweeted a picture of himself with the words, "Sanctions are coming - November 5" written in text reminiscent of the Game of Thrones title font.

"Winter is coming" is a famous catchphrase from the popular drama series.

HBO responded with a tweet of its own: "How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?" referencing one of the languages in the show.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, the network said: "We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes."
