The Washington Post - Trump questions climate change

from "a wide-ranging and sometimes discordant" 20-minute interview with The Washington Post:

Trump dismissed the federal government’s landmark report released last week finding that damages from global warming are intensifying around the country.

The president said that “I don’t see” climate change as man-made and that he does not believe the scientific consensus.

One of the problems that a lot of people like myself, we have very high levels of intelligence but we’re not necessarily such believers,” Trump said.

You look at our air and our water, and it’s right now at a record clean.”

Trump must be awfully insecure to need to surround himself with that kind of affirmation.

Rikkitic:Trump must be awfully insecure to need to surround himself with that kind of affirmation.

Agreed. But like many insecure people, he's developed a defense for his perceived inadequacies. In Trump's case, his defense is so effective, it's become offense.

The article to which I linked reveals a great deal about Trump. He's definitely not the fool that I believed him to be.

I hate to say this, but I believe he'll see out this term and will probably make a second.

The New York Times - Trump Lobs Insults at Special Counsel One Day After Prosecutors Say Manafort Lied

WASHINGTON - President Trump on Tuesday lobbed familiar insults and accusations at the special counsel investigation, a day after prosecutors said his former campaign chairman repeatedly lied to investigators in breach of a previous plea agreement.

The Washington Post - Rebuking Trump, senators back effort to suspend U.S. support for Saudi-led war in Yemen

The Senate on Wednesday delivered a historic rebuke of Saudi Arabia and President Trump’s handling of the fallout over journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s killing last month, as a decisive majority voted to advance a measure to end U.S. military support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

The 63-to-37 vote is only an initial procedural step, but it nonetheless represents an unprecedented challenge to the security relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The vote was prompted by lawmakers’ growing frustration with Trump for defending Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s denials of culpability in Khashoggi’s death, despite the CIA’s finding that he had almost certainly ordered the killing.

Their frustration peaked shortly before Wednesday’s vote, when senators met behind closed doors to discuss Saudi Arabia, Khashoggi and Yemen with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis - but not CIA Director Gina Haspel, who did not attend the briefing.

Her absence so incensed lawmakers that one of the president’s closest congressional allies threatened not only to vote for the Yemen resolution but also to withhold his support from “any key vote” - including a government funding bill - until Haspel was sent to Capitol Hill for a briefing. ...

Several senators from both parties think the funding measure could be a vehicle for bipartisan-backed proposals to end arms transfers to Saudi Arabia and impose sanctions on those implicated in the conflict in Yemen.

The Washington Post - Four key takeaways from Michael Cohen’s new plea deal

1. There are conspicuous mentions of Trump and his family
2. Putin’s spokesman appears to have helped cover this up
3. This ties the Trump family’s efforts to the Russian government
4) The deal apparently died the day The Post broke a story about Russian hacking

The Washington Post - Who’s been charged in Mueller-linked probes, and why

Updated Nov. 29, 2018

Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III has charged 32 people, including 26 Russian nationals, in his ongoing probe of possible Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election.
Others have been charged in related cases that originated with Mueller’s probe, but were pursued by different prosecutors.

Several articles, including quotes from the Nixon impeachment (misleading the US people), are implying that the Russian probe is closing in on Trump. It seems to be the closest anything material has occurred to oust him. He is falling back on the "I didnt know....."

Could this be the beginning of the end? Or just another crisis he will extricate himself from?

I'll take door no. 2 thanks, Ken. He's basically untouchable until he leaves office. Unless Mueller can also prove enough Republican Senators are criminals to get them convicted, tossed our of office and replaced with Democrats in special elections - none of which are going to happen - Trump is here till 2020, and I'd be prepared to bet $10 he gets a second term as well.

Surely if he is found to have lied, that's perjury? That was mentioned, as well as misleading the US people, one of the terms that was used against Nixon. He can argue I wasn't aware, I cant remember and so on, and also that he is a citizen turned to POTUS so lacks understanding. Plus there must still be a lot of GOP that want him out, a little more incentive to use legal means as the lever

I'd be shocked if he got back in, in 2020. He must have rarked up enough Republican voters to get some pushback, and the usual non voters will be out in force, that's a new voting stream, the voters that can't be bothered voting.

He has demonstrably broken any number of laws without penalty. If you're suggesting that a room full of American politicians might hang one of their own team for lying then I've got a lovely bridge to sell you. You don't even need a Mueller if you want to prove Trump is a liar. Just listen to him talk for 30 seconds.
