Rikkitic:

Californians want to leave the US.

if California was a country, then it would be the 35th most populous, and 5th largest economy in the world.

It wouldn't miss any federal money: it receives $0.99 in federal expenditures per dollar of taxes paid. This includes all federal programs including welfare and social security.

California is the porn capital of the world, bringing in between 10 - 14 billion in revenue for the state.

As for water, a small amount of water diverted to Los Angeles for drinking from the Colorado river. All the crops is from local water sheds

Californians wouldn't even need to update their geography textbooks. Many can't find the USA on an unmarked map.

18 U.S.C. §§ 1512 - the sequel:

Norman Eisen, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, said that the most striking thing about Monday was that there were two statements in proximity.

It comes very close to the statutory definition of witness tampering,” he said.

“It’s a mirror image of the first tweet, only he’s praising a witness for not cooperating with the implication of reward,” he said, adding that Trump has pardon power over Stone.

“We’re so used to President Trump transgressing norms in his public declarations,” Eisen said, “but he may have crossed the legal line.”

Attorney George Conway, husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, referenced the federal statute most likely to create legal liability for Trump: 18 U.S.C. §§ 1512, which outlines the crime of witness tampering.

I am surprised Kellyanne has not left the White House yet, or divorced her husband. They seem to have very different views on her boss.

Dow goes up, Dow goes down. Apparently Trump didn't really mean it when he buried the hatchet with China. Also, US senators finally got their briefing from the CIA director and agree that the crown of thorns prince is an overdressed murdering thug. Even the Republicans. Check out the front page of the Washington Post. It is the gift that goes on giving.

WP includes this, referring to China "“We need to see some major changes in their behavior,” he said, speaking at the same event as Kudlow. “Nobody is under any illusions.”

That most certainly cuts both ways.

If the US economy contracts, then that's going to set a challenge for Republicans to argue that it's the Democrat's fault.  I'm highly confident that's what they'll do, as it would be consistent with what they've done for the past few decades.

The state’s Board of Elections—four Democrats, four Republicans, and one Independent —shocked

North Carolina’s political establishment by voting unanimously not to certify Mark Harris’s win.

(geekIT: The above report is real. Mark Harris is a Republican)

BAGHDAD (The Borowitz Report)—The government of Iraq announced on Tuesday that it would seek to build an international coalition to establish democracy in the state of North Carolina.

Speaking to reporters in Baghdad, the Iraqi President, Barham Salih, said that Iraq had reached out to regional powers including Canada and Mexico to launch a military invasion of North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District to “protect the North Carolinians’ right to self-determination.”

While many in the international community commended Salih’s desire to bring democracy to North Carolina, some critics warned that the effort could wind up destabilizing other American states.

“If North Carolina gets democracy, it’s only a matter of time before the people of Wisconsin, Georgia, and other failed states demand it as well,” Muqtada al-Sadr, the Iraqi politician and cleric, said. “Iraq could find itself in a quagmire with no exit strategy.”

Brushing aside such concerns, President Salih said that his international coalition could send troops to N.C.-9 as early as next week.

“We will be greeted as liberators,” he predicted.

GOP hit with election fraud claims after using issue as rallying cry

The results in North Carolina's 9th District haven't been certified after allegations against a contractor for Republican Mark Harris.

By Elena Schneider

"Fighting voter fraud has been a Republican rallying cry for years. But the GOP now finds one of its own candidates at the center of the biggest alleged election fraud in recent memory.

North Carolina’s Board of Elections has postponed certifying election results in the state’s 9th Congressional District, where Republican Mark Harris holds a 905-vote lead over Democrat Dan McCready — and a contractor working for Harris’ campaign has been accused of collecting and filling out hundreds of voters’ absentee ballots.

The allegations run counter to longtime complaints from President Donald Trump and Republicans about supposed Democratic voter fraud, and they come at an especially awkward time for the state GOP in North Carolina. The party just championed a voter-ID referendum approved in November, and Republican state legislators are pushing to approve language implementing the referendum during a lame-duck session, before they lose their veto-proof majorities in January.

I'm not sure what a Republican is anymore. They used to be people who believed in conservative values like honesty, decency and fair play. Now they seem to have sold out to Trump’s distorted ‘win at all costs’ mantra. In Wisconsin and Michigan they are changing the rules to undermine the result of a democratic election. I guess that means they don’t believe in democracy any longer. I saw one Republican official with twisted features loudly proclaim that he wasn’t about to allow any ‘liberal agenda’ there. What voters want doesn’t seem to matter much to him. Some narrow Republican victories elsewhere also seem suspect, while other elections have been the result of blatant gerrymandering and voter repression. And now, in South Carolina, a major voter fraud investigation is underway. Republicans used to believe in ethics and a fair contest of ideas. But I doubt an old-school Republican like George HW Bush would recognise much in the mean-spirited cabal now claiming the label.

As Mueller closes in, another scandal that has emerged deserves closer attention. Like Nixon before him, Trump has surrounded himself with corrupt officials. In this case public attention is being focused on Trump’s Labour Secretary Alexander Acosta, who has been accused of the worst kind of class justice when he was a prosecutor. The case has to do with billionaire hedge-fund manager Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of abusing, raping and trafficking children on a vast scale but had friends in high places and was given an extremely soft plea deal. I can’t repeat the whole story here but read the link. It is horrific.

These are the kinds of people Trump surrounds himself with. In the case of Nixon, even his vice-president barely escaped prison for accepting bribes, and his attorney general, the highest law officer in the land, did go to prison for his crimes. He was joined by numerous other officials and aides. Trump, like his good friend the brutal crown prince of Saudi Arabia, may avoid a similar fate by throwing his minions under the bus, but he will not escape the humiliation and rejection that drove Richard Nixon from office.
