The New York Times - Trump Walks Out on Pelosi and Schumer After 3 Minutes
[and after arriving 15 minutes late]
May 22, 2019
WASHINGTON — President Trump abruptly blew up a scheduled meeting with Democratic congressional leaders on Wednesday, lashing out at Speaker Nancy Pelosi for accusing him of a cover-up and declaring that he could not work with them until they stopped investigating him.
He then marched out into the Rose Garden, where reporters had been gathered, and delivered a statement bristling with anger as he demanded that Democrats “get these phony investigations over with.” ...
The Rose Garden Rant was along the usual Trump lines, with the addition of a new and ludicrous claim: "I'm the most transparent president probably in the history of this country."
Nancy Pelosi later gave a press conference of her own, where she sounded frighteningly old and tired.
She avoided direct criticism of Trump, but made a possible coded reference to his declining mental health:
“For some reason, maybe it was lack of confidence on his part that he really couldn’t match the greatness of the challenge that we have ... he just took a pass, and it just makes me wonder why he did.”
“In any event, I pray for the president of the United States, and I pray for the United States of America.”
