kingdragonfly:

I've been around a lot of evangelists. Many want to be about the "rapture," the end time event when all Christian believers who are alive, along with the resurrected dead believers, will rise "in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air".

There are American ranchers who raise red heifers, reddish-brown cows. More specifically, a two years old cow who can be air shipped quickly to Israel and burnt on short notice to the entrance to the tabernacle. The condition of the cow must be perfect, and had never used a yoke.

Turning the world to sh1t, even bringing about a full-blown nuclear war, is good: it brings the end times closer.

It's not a small fringe group either.

From the Washington Post

Half of evangelicals support Israel because they believe it is important for fulfilling end-times prophecy

...LifeWay Research conducted a poll evaluating the views of evangelical Americans on issues related to Israel and the politics of the Middle East. ... Among the questions was one about the biblical promise of the Holy Land to Abraham and his descendants. Two-thirds of respondents strongly agreed that the promise was an eternal one from God.

But it’s also worth picking out another part of what Jeffress said to CNN. Jerusalem, he said, is “the touchstone of prophecy.” That prophecy is the biblical prophecy of the return of Jesus Christ and the beginning of the Rapture — the end times.

So  you are saying ... evangelicals like Trump because they think he will hasten the end of the world?

Giuliani admits he has ‘insurance’ should Trump turn on him

ABC News

When asked what he would do if Trump tries to throw him “under the bus” as it relates to Ukraine, Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani was quoted as saying “Trump isn’t, but I have insurance.”

You don't have to be an Evangelical to believe that Trump will hasten the end of the world.

My first post on this thread, on page 1, reads as follows:  "If elected he'll start Word War Three and we'll all die ...  "

It could very easily still happen.

That's pretty much the case.  Steve Bannon gave lectures about it, so if not the coming rapture, than at least his desired outcome of a final inevitable showdown between the forces of Christians and Jews fighting Muslims and Commies.  I'm reasonably sure Bannon thinks Trump is a moron, but could still get the job done if he can avoid jail/impeachment.  He might have been losing confidence over the past year or so.

"We got elected on Drain the Swamp, Lock Her Up, Build a Wall. This was pure anger. Anger and fear is what gets people to the polls." He added, "The Democrats don't matter. The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with sh1t"

I can't speak for evangelicals . However I believe suicide bombers may have a similar world outlook: mayhem is needed to bring paradise. It comes after death,or the world's death, the rapture.

It wouldn't be faith if reason could dissuade the faithful

Except bail America out of its worst financial crisis for decades, and, as thanks, being blocked by Republican blockheads from being able to properly govern for his second 4-year term.

and the American tax payer pays for it, while the ruling elite party with bank execs, give them virtually unlimited bail out money, so they can get their logos on the front of All Black jerseys, while still continuing to get massive bonuses.

No wonder American voters want term limits for their elected representatives

BarTender:
nathan: If only the Democrats had some morals, this might make some sense
No one thinks Hunter Biden “earned” that money from the Ukrainian gas company, his surname did.

Instead voters know that the technocrat Democrats are happy with the status quo, Biden stood side by side with 8 years of Obama, that delivered virtually nothing for the average American worker. Besides, the average American couldn’t careless about aid to Ukraine, don’t think this incident rises to the level of impeachment, and with less than a year till elections, thinks this is a waste of time and money.

If the impeachment goes ahead it will screw over Warren and Bernie as they’ll be stuck in Congress for 6 days a week, instead of campaigning.

All the deflection in the world doesn't excuse the fact Trump nor any of his cronies will testify under oath.
You know who testified under oath for 12 hours without being caught out for lying. Hillary.
So you can take that completely baseless Fox News conspiracy theory and put up or shut up.

its not a conspiracy theory, its what most american voters know and believe.  Both parties are two sides of the same coin, theres no real choice here.

The ruling elites are out to enrich themselves and don't care about workers and the shrinking middle class.

The democrats are still not able to be honest with themselves about how they lost.

This impeachment will turn out being another democrat strategic blunder.

The Washington Post -  The 5-Minute Fix

today

Monday’s impeachment news, in a sentence:

A federal judge just ruled that the White House’s former top lawyer, Donald McGahn, has to talk to Congress even though the White House has banned him from doing so.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson called the White House ban on officials, past and present, complying with subpoenas “an affront to the mechanism for curbing abuses of power that the Framers carefully crafted for our protection."

She did not mince words about this. ...

This ruling could give other people who were close to Trump cover to talk about Ukraine. ...

whats the bet, that for anything actually interesting, he simply invokes privilege and keeps his mouth shut

The Washington Post - The apocalyptic myth that helps explain evangelical support for Trump

November 27, 2019  (extracts from a long and frightening article)

“God’s used imperfect people all through history. King David wasn’t perfect. Saul wasn’t perfect. Solomon wasn’t perfect,” outgoing Energy Secretary Rick Perry said in an interview on “Fox & Friends” before going on to claim that he had given the president “a little one-pager on those Old Testament kings".

"I said, ‘Mr. President, I know there are people who say, you know, you are the chosen one ...’ ”

Perry’s statement - especially that “chosen one” bit - would be more surprising in a different administration.

At this point, though, it could almost disappear into the background chatter of the administration and its allies.

Presidential adviser Paula White, for example, uses the description of a demonic struggle to paint contemporary politics as a holy war.

In a sermon about Trump in June, she proclaimed, “I declare President Trump will overcome every strategy from hell and every strategy of the enemy, every strategy, and he will fulfill his calling and his destiny.”

Perry’s and White’s praise may seem outlandish or extreme, but it is entirely in keeping with the way many of the president’s advocates speak of him.

Indeed, the tenor of these public pronouncements help explain why he is supported by some 65 percent of white evangelical voters, despite his many improprieties and failings.

As Perry’s and White’s remarks remind us, “modern” Christianity has not cast off old ideas.

One of its oldest is evident in the “calling and destiny” that White evokes: Implicit in her bombast is a vision of the president as a triumphantly apocalyptic figure, one who evokes the medieval legend of the Last World Emperor. ...

We may laugh when President Trump calls himself “the chosen one” or likens himself to the “King of Israel” or like “the second coming of God,” and it’s even possible that he’s joking when he borrows this religious vocabulary.

But there are people who take him and this ideology seriously.

Trump does not have to think of himself as the Messiah for others to take it up.

In the end, all that really matters is that “God’s used imperfect people all through history.”

For Trump’s devotees, then, his failings are actually reason to be hopeful, if only because they suggest he’ll lead us into the world to come.

During the impeachment inquiry, Nunes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, repeatedly claimed that Ukraine had attempted to influence the 2016 United States presidential election, one of the conspiracy theories related to the Trump–Ukraine scandal.

I don't think there can be any doubt about the chaos that'll soon engulf the world. 'Civilization', as we know it, is about to come to a very sticky end, not with the 'bang, but the 'whimper' that Mr. Eliot spoke about.

The thing that really cracks me up is the very people who've been least helpful and most obstructive about mitigating climate change, are gonna go down with the ship, just like everyone else, although, given their riches and the ability to build gold-plated bunkers, the billionaire captains of smoke-belching industry might be the last to perish, like the orchestra on the Titanic.

Just be thankful, folks, for our little old GodZone life raft, although at some stage we're gonna be overrun by wealthy refugees. Let's hope the milk and honey holds out.

*Citation needed for "most" voters know and believe. That would assume at least over 50% of the voting population. And citation also required in regards to the relative honesty of each party with the number of criminal convictions between each party member.

The ongoing whataboutism in regards to the level of convicted criminality between the two parties is hilarious. The GOP have consistently shown themselves to be dishonest to the core. Only cognitive dissonance prevents you from seeing that.

And @nathan if you weren't sure, there is a Wikipedia articles listing it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_political_scandals_in_the_United_States or a not as updated / complete one of convictions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_federal_politicians_convicted_of_crimes

Or some graphs from 2018 which are no doubt outdated now: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/9/18/1796668/-UPDATED-Comparing-Presidential-Administrations-by-felony-arrests-and-convictions-as-of-9-17-2018

If you weren't sure the number of (R)'s outnumbers the number of (D)'s by an order of magnitude, but sure talk about both parties being two sides of the same coin. It's the same republican talking point used time and time again to try and distract from the appalling behavior of Trump and his cronies.

In my view, if Trump doesn't get impeached then it sends a very clear message that the president and everyone around him are above the law and the USA should no longer call itself a democracy and won't abide to any rule of law and it is an oligarchy.
