The Washington Post - White House rejects House Democrats’ invitation to participate in impeachment process as Trump focuses on friendly Senate

Dec. 7, 2019

The White House on Friday appeared to reject the latest entreaties from the House for it to participate in the rapidly-accelerating impeachment inquiry, calling the proceedings “completely baseless” as Democrats continued their push to impeach the president by the end of the month.

White House Counsel Pat Cipollone indicated to the House Judiciary Committee on Friday that Trump would not send lawyers to the committee’s hearing on Monday, when the panel charged with drafting articles of impeachment will hear evidence from Intelligence Committee lawyers on the investigation into the president’s conduct toward Ukraine.

The scathing, two-paragraph letter reiterated the White House’s protests that the Democrats’ impeachment investigation violated Trump’s due-process rights. Cipollone did not explicitly say the White House would not later participate in the House process but gave no indication that it would.

House Democrats have wasted enough of America’s time with this charade. You should end this inquiry now and not waste even more time with additional hearings,” Cipollone wrote on Friday to the Judiciary Committee chairman, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.).

Adopting articles of impeachment would be a reckless abuse of power by House Democrats, and would constitute the most unjust, highly partisan, and unconstitutional attempt at impeachment in our Nation's history.” ...

Nadler had given Trump a 5 p.m. Friday deadline for alerting the committee on whether he or his aides wanted to take part in upcoming impeachment events.

The tone of the response came as little surprise.

Throughout the impeachment proceedings, the White House has barred witnesses from testifying, declined to provide documents demanded by Democrats and did not send lawyers to the Judiciary Committee’s first impeachment hearing on Wednesday. ...

The Washington Post - As impeachment tide swirls around Trump, Giuliani drops anchor in Ukraine

Dec. 7, 2019

Even as the House of Representatives began drafting charges against President Trump this week, his private attorney, who many believe is partly responsible for leading Trump on the path to his likely impeachment, made an audacious trip to the country at the center of the scandal.

Rudolph W. Giuliani departed Kyiv after meeting with a range of Ukrainians who have been feeding him unproven allegations against former vice president Joe Biden and helping construct a counternarrative that is taking hold in the Republican Party.

The latter story line asserts that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election, including with the baseless theory that Ukraine, rather than Russia, was behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee.

The purported purpose of the trip was to conduct interviews for a documentary on a right-wing media network.

But Giuliani’s travel also appeared designed to send a broader and more brazen signal of the disregard that he and Trump have for the unfolding impeachment process. ...

I have just been reading a WP article on Bloomberg. He seems to be going all-out and the amount of money he is splashing could actually throw a major spanner in the works.

I feel very conflicted about this, and I'm sure many American voters do, as well. I think Trump is all four horsemen of the Apocalypse packaged into one. I think the fate of the world depends on him not being president a second time. I think the stakes are as high as the future of humanity. Apart from all that, I detest and despise him with all my being.

If I could vote, I would vote for any democratic candidate, regardless of who it is. Literally anyone is better than Trump. But in the seemingly unlikely (history teaches us that you never know) event that Bloomberg actually wins the nomination, then what that really says is the US Presidency is for sale to the highest bidder. How can that be a good thing? I would vote for Bloomberg over Trump, but his victory might be just as bad as far as the future of democracy is concerned. It is a quandary.

You missed the final bits where he goes back to being a doofus and says "This is wrong and has to be changed."

Puts me in mind of Hannibal Lecter serving Ray Liotta's character slices of his own brain.

So the stable genius is against babies being born from the wombs of men (!) and women after nine months (!). That alone ought to qualify him for removal under the 25th amendment.

I think this is another possible example of dementia or some sort of impaired mental ability.

It exhibits his inability to express in words what he is actually thinking. There's no point in analyzing it literally because it's almost certainly not what he was trying to convey.

He has a pretty low intellect but sometimes he seems to have difficulty in expressing himself even when the concepts are simple. Could also be due to tiredness, medication etc. He's a non-drinker isn't he so it can't be alcohol.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that Trump has dementia - superimposed on a severe personality disorder - Narcissism* - plus a limited intellect - plus possible substance abuse.

His father developed dementia at the same age.

He is unfit to govern. Even more unfit than when he was elected.

* He meets ALL of the diagnostic criteria for Narcissism
