It was more "last person standing" than any sort of actual democratic exercise!
If you're suggesting we cut off her head ... Well, generally I'm against the death penalty, but I feel I could make an exception in this case.

More precisely, the last person brave enough to stand.

Yes indeed. I am still half convinced Boris allowed Gove to do what he did in the knowledge that whoever got the job would get no thanks from anyone and face a Herculean task equal to mucking out the Augean Stables. Better to fade away early, watch AN Other mess it up, then appear later as the Conquering Hero to save the day, in true Arthurian fashion.

But the grave its counsel keeps:
Still within his Hall of Waiting,
With his warriors Arthur sleeps."
And so it begins...(from today's Daily Telegraph)
Europe’s largest industrial combine has vowed to press ahead with investment in Britain despite the vote to leave the EU, backing away deftly from earlier suggestions that Brexit would cause a painful freeze on new activities.
Joe Kaeser, the chief executive of Siemens, said the German engineering and technology giant remains fully committed to the UK whatever happens, but called on Theresa May to clarify Britain's post-Brexit trade vision as soon as possible and tell the world what kind of country it will become.
“We’re here for the long-term and we don’t let ourselves get jerked up and down. We’re staying because the UK is a good place to do business,” he said.
Mr Kaeser said the company had been misunderstood in the heat of the Brexit campaign when it was widely seen as a cheer-leader for Remain. Corporate damage-control is underway at the highest level.
“We never said the UK is in bad shape if it leaves the EU: we said the EU would miss a massive opportunity. Without the UK, the EU may never be able to stand up against superpowers like China and the US,” he told the Daily Telegraph and three other UK newspapers.
The top management of the 350,000-strong company is converging on the Cotswolds for a retreat to thrash out its post-Brexit strategy. “This is to show that the UK matters with or without it being a member of the EU,” he said.
Siemens employs 14,000 people in Britain, from wind power, to turbo-machinery, transport signals, MRI scanners, and health care diagnostics, mostly in highly-skilled jobs. It is a central pillar of Britain’s manufacturing and hi-tech sector, crucial to a nexus of sub-contractors.
So you reckon Boris will return to "save the day"?
PhantomNVD: I'd say they should then at least have May/Gove in the vote pool for their constituents else this looks strongly like a setup/shoo-in handover !

Constituents dont vote for the party leader, only their local mp who may or may not be a member of a party.
Normally, if there's more than one candidate, the 150,000 Conservative Party members would be in the final vote. But in this case, with only one candidate, that's not going to happen.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Yep - and it just could be that Boris backed Andrea Leadsom recently because he thought she would be easier to roll than Theresa May when the time came. Then unfortunately for him, AL dropped out.
Boris: very astute + very ambitious => he'll be back.

May as PM, Hammond as Chancellor. I'm excited to see what Clarkson will get.
And Boris as Foreign Secretary...
I know little about British politics or Politicians, however, Boris as Foreign Secretary seems insane, followed by Gove being given the shove, and Nicky Morgan too. Feels a little like Boris has managed to exact his revenge and I must say I feel uneasy that the Prime Minister of Britain would be doing this to satisfy Boris.

I very much doubt that is the reason.
Were I to be cynical I might say 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer' is nearer the mark.
However, do not underestimate Boris. He's a bright chap and well liked, personable and affable. The job has been slightly diluted by having some areas of responsibility devolved to other ministries as well, so it is more a "Chief Ambassador" role by the looks of it. Boris has plenty of family connections around the world too and being related to the Royal Family never hurts.
Amusingly, his father used to work for the EU and the family lived in Brussels for a while!
