I bet Karrimor (a long established British manufacturer of mountaineering gear) are thrilled to have their brand of rucksack widely associated with this courtesy of the allegedly leaked images.

Seriously? Who in their right mind would care?

I believe that as long as people are willing to blow themselves up, or are prepared to drive their cars into random groups of pedestrians, no amount of repressive violence will be able to stop them. The only way to really end terrorism, whether it cloaks itself in the Islamic faith or not, is to eliminate the causes of it. Primitive knee-jerk NRA gung-ho Rambo let's blast them all to Kingdom Come type of thinking is just the lashing out of an impotent titan. It doesn't solve anything.

The Japs thought the same thing.

WWII was quickly put to an end.

It's unclear what you're saying that Japan thought in WW2. I'm guessing you're referring to kamikaze aircraft and submarines, and the fact that it stopped (mostly) when Japan lost.

Those young men volunteered for those missions out of a sense of honour and loyalty to their nation. When their nation surrendered, there was no reason to continue. Another example of this is Vietnam, where North Vietnamese soldiers *proudly* tattooed "Born in the North to die in the South" on their arms.

But I believe that the situation in Europe is very different... My impression is that those young men are not volunteering for suicide bomb missions out of loyalty to anything, not even religion. There's no particular group cohesion going on. Rather it's individual; I think a profound anger at the country and civilization that they live in, and are citizens of. But maybe I got that wrong.

I think you have it very wrong.

These individuals are no different to the "suicide bombers" of 911. And it has an awfully lot to do with their religion/and or culture.

Guess where Isis gets their money and weapons from - not from thin air. from the oil they sell (eventually) to westerners, the weapons they get from Saudi (who bought them from America).

And nobody cares. In fact Trump is selling more weapons to Saudi to "fight isis". Saudi is not going to "fight isis". Lol, the weapons will arm isis.

So, the AK47s, RPG7s, Strelas, AK74s etc that ISIS uses are all US manufactured?  That really is a surprise.

Of all the news footage I've seen of ISIS etc, I think I have yet to see them using US-manufactured weapons.  Ot are you saying that the US govt are buying arms from Russia/China and selling these to Saudi?

Or are you just making stuff up?

joker97 provided the basis for his claims in hyperlinks.

One of the perils of not quoting at least a relevant part of the source - it interrupts the discussion and not so many will follow links. The point can be lost easily. Also, joker97 is not quoting original sources, users must follow the link and then click even more links to get to those.

Isis use of American made weapons is covered in one of the links. Could have been obtained from any number of places, including past battles in Iraq. Having said that, I can't say I followed every link on the linked pages so could easily have missed something.

According to Collins (and the others) winge is the accepted Australian (close enough) variant. But there are weightier things to discuss here.

THe amazing thing about this is that when I spoke to my American Trump supporters they said they read that wikileaks said Clinton was supplying ISIS with weapons! [I'd say that single piece of fake news could well have given the Presidency to Trump singlehandedly.] Ok better not digress.

The presidency went to Trump because he was the best of the two, and he has the balls to take on ISIS. (no pun intended). Hilary would have been (more) of a disaster for the US. The illegal immigrants would continue to flow, and the US would be looking like a Europe 2.0 at the end of her presidency.

Further debate on that point is better in the President Trump thread. You would be the first Trump supporter posting there for a long long time. Some others changed their mind imho.

Edit: Linked to start of thread but skip to the end. Still very active.

I will prefer to stay out of that thread. 291 pages of mostly um fake news, propaganda and just general rubbish. Kiwis are very influenced by the media, and it shows. Most comments there are from people who don't even have a clue on US politics.

ps; I'm no Trump supporter. Just saying that he was the best of the two candidates. Blame the US electoral system if u have an axe to grind.

I would be interested to know what the fake news, propaganda and general rubbish is. Just the stuff you don't agree with? There is a great deal of well-documented information that some people went to the trouble to source. I know, because some is from me. Fredd99 is very meticulous about this sort of thing. You say most people don't have a clue about US politics. What is your background? And what is the basis of your conclusion that an immature pathological liar with zero grasp of world affairs who has so far failed in every initiative he has undertaken save the appointment of a single Supreme Court Justice, was the better of the two candidates?

100% of American voters I have personally interviewed (N = 3) have stated that Trump was the "least bad" of the options presented to them, and that they voted for Trump for *change*, not for Trump himself.

You forgetting, most of the USA agrees with me. And most of America don't agree on your view on the man either. I don't need to state the basis of my conclusion. My conclusion is what it is.

Trump won the election, and that is the proof he was the best of the two candidates. End of discussion.
