Water tax is for a good cause, a lot of that will be paid by foreignors, good for the trade balance
Good cause or not. I don't believe that getting it done requires a new tax.

Thats an option. Tax all of us or tax the causers. I prefer to tax the causers. Adds a few cents to a bottle of wine, adds hopefully more cents to exported bottles of NZ water. Its hardly going to affect us. Or we all pay for damage we did not cause by cutting something else out.

Jump through to halfway when on the topic of the family home.
Its part of the Capital gains Tax, if you inherit a family home and you sell it, you will pay tax on it. In other words an inheritance tax. An inherited family home will be taxed under labors current 2011 policy. Not good.

As I have said before, stop waiting money on other things. There hundreds of things NZ needs to do for good cause. You telling me that the only way to get them done is to raise taxes. Therefore I am telling you they will not get done (unless we end up at a close to 100% tax rate maybe)
Raising taxes is not the answer. We need to spend smarter.

What we need is more people actually being net payers of tax and less people being net beneficiaries of the others...!

Agreed more people in jobs will result in the government earning more from tax, and less spent on social welfare.
I'm sure we can clean up many rivers with the money saved.
Better still, use the jobless on social welfare to help with the cleanup tasks.
How do we get the tax take up by getting folks off benefits and increasing wages and salaries without fueling inflation, making us less competitive in our export markets thus resulting in drops in production and exports meaning job losses and higher unemployment.
