My son was parked down the road from our place the day before yesterday, noticed a very good friend of ours - who happens to be a religious National Party supporter - walking down the road pulling "Jacinda" leaflets out of people's mailboxes - and discreetly putting them in her handbag.

LOL and WTF?

I'll be so glad when this election is over.

Dratsab:

Has he reported this to anyone?

No - we haven't encouraged him to report family friends guilty of minor stupidities in to the state police.

Should bring back the stocks.

Having garbage thrown at you for an afternoon is cathartic I hear.

That makes him no different to her.

That's a very stupid thing to say.

I view doing nothing as passively condoning such action which thus emboldens the actor and others of their ilk.

If they had been leaflets with Andrew Little's photo she wouldn't have bothered.

IANAL but I strongly suspect removing something from someones letter box, even "political junk mail" meets a legal definition for theft.

I would be too pleased if somebody came along and removed them from my letter box. Mine just go straight into recycling anyway.

Maybe this issue falls under section 23 of the Postal Services Act 1998? To qoute:

23 Unlawfully opening postal article
(1) Every person commits an offence against this Act who wilfully and without
reasonable excuse opens or causes to be opened any postal article that is not
addressed to that person.

I am not fan of Labour, but I consider this very poor decision making by that one person.

Having said that, I have seen people knocking over billboards from parties they don't support, and thankfully they are relatively isolated events by misguided people who are unlikely to be repentant even if reported.
