Why does Labours reducing immigration policy include students? They are temporary. They bring fees, BIG fees.

You tell us?

Also tell us how we are going to double the building programme for new houses with so many less immigrants?

Remember our unemployment rate is as low as it can go in reality.

When Jacinda gets asked this question she just smiles and shows her teeth and says we are going to train kiwis to do it....what kiwis?

The kiwis who are working at the drive through, the call centre or only 15 hours per week - thanks neoliberals, the casual labour market is GREAT !!

The evidence for student existence is if you live amongst the university students. There is a reason why a whole section of Dunedin's stadium is called The Zoo. Come and join us for one week, pick any random week.

On a less serious note, missus just reminded me that all our American friends on work visa get free schooling and free healthcare. Is that true for everyone on work visas?

We don't need money for education, it's going to be free. No only the courses become free, but you get paid more to drink and party during your free courses.

What a foolish thing to say.

Sad you call people out like that.

He is actually correct. When education was free it was party central at university..especially the first year. Students will be students. They seem to party had as it is now and they pay for education. I am totally against this policy as is most of the western world.

They already get huge interest free loans and usually get higher salaries almost immediately or go work over seas. Maybe they should get their fees refunded gradually as they work..ie after they have completed their degrees.

We have people living in poverty and on the streets who cannot afford a beer let alone parties every weekend.

I agree that student loans are not well managed. It's a great concept for those who need them. Repayments need to be via IRD like child maintenance.

This happens a few times a year, but the typical week is made up of flat->pub crawl parties from Thursday to Saturday, while students at hostel accommodation would drink themselves to the ground in town and come back to the hostel and throw up all weekend.

A lot of those students are doing *** low value courses through "institutions" just so they can get their foot in the door.

Allow that, but the foot in the door is now a new issue. We get millions on foreign money imported for education, we should protect that.

Yep I agree, but I'm pretty sure the reason these low-skilled "language course" students have come to NZ is for the foot in the door, the actual course doesn't matter. Take away the option to stay and they're not even going to come in the first place.

Yes, lets keep the high fee paying University students, all the other bludgers can come and go or don't come in the first place I say.

What I'd really like to know though, are the content and details of the negotiation ... that would give me something to do while I wait on the new policies, new systems, new school curriculum, new tax, and yes where to get my free money.

It's been a couple of days. Any news on the free money yet? And, and, and ........... will this include free weed as well?

Exactly. I have knowledge in that area. They pay a lot. If they get what they want and go thats good for NZ. If they have skills that we want and they want to stay that's good too. Want to move to USA? forget it. Same and worse for Canada. They manage immigration, we don't, but we should.

The focus is on skilled workers, not just allowing anyone and everyone in. There are few countries where anyone can just emigrate to, because they just decide to. The reduced immigration is not Peters 10,000 level, I believe it is more Labours level. If we were short for skilled workers, no doubt they will be brought in. Drive through attendants for Macca's.no. Nothing is set in stone.

There are more countries than you think. All of the EU for example. Anyone from any EU country can move to and work in any other without even filling in a form.

According to this page (which doesn't make sense), NZF has been given everything except PM.

A PM will want to have a Minister and an Undersecretary in the portfolios with the highest work load.    The Minister of Racing can get by without one.

Good on National for standing up to NZF.

Seems Greens got an equally long list of wishes granted.

We have a new government. The old one's out. Isn't it time you all accepted that fact and moved on?

I can see this topic ending up like the President of the USA topic, endless going round and round in circles repeating the same old same old over and over again.
