Oh look, more tax! I guess we finally found a promise they kept! They kinda lied and said it was going to be 10c or less now it's.... 11.5c!

They will say and maybe accurately that there would be no new taxes. This is an increase in an existing tax, err excise err fee or something but not a new tax.

Let's not start this discussion again. They lied.

Clearly not. I thought I detected it, but I wasn't sure. Better to be safe than sorry.

I am tired of this carousel so I am getting off. Have fun telling your audience of four how terrible this government is. You have turned this into a right wing echo chamber and I am tired of hearing the same moan over and over. Goodbye.

One thing I hate is political renaming of roses. This tax increase is simply that rose renaming. I also believe it will fail and disappear into the black hole called the consolidated fund. Also once added will not be removed like the temporary  surcharge added to Wellington regional rates to build the stadium. It's dishonest.

I feel sympathy for you trying to defend the indefensible.

By right wing, I assume you mean honest and accountable as was promised? Because that is all this "right" winger wants.

I agree, if it was ring fenced for traffic, instead of propping up the overpromising for other spending, I wouldn't be so upset about it.

What is sad is that I believed them prior to election when they harped on and on about poverty in this country and that lowering GPS visits to becoming affordable would be huge in bettering the health of those less fortunate. But I guess I was wrong to believe....it seems Shane Jones was more important, as were the students getting a double hand out, as were the dead miners...

I just don't believe a thing they say...but hey we have 15 affordable homes under construction...at around $700k each.

Government have just announced another MAJOR backdown over cheaper doctors visits. Considering the huge emphasis on assisting the poor prior to the election this is a disgrace. Winners seem to be Shane Jones, students and dead miners. I wonder whats next?

Well, they have broken every promise they made, maybe they are going to start breaking other peoples promises now :)

It's exceptionally frustrating to have no way to hold them to account except to hope that by next election failure isn't the new normal and people vote what's familiar over what's performing.

Every promise? Is there a summarised list that you can post?

You are right, it's not every single promise. Just most. Lists are scattered throughout a fair number of news outlets and this thread a number of times. 6fiend has posted a number if you want to search them.

The Key government had quite a few advantages coming in on a relatively non-specific vibe for more progress + Key's aspirational talk and very vague things to say after that like financial hub. Not so with Labour in this election. The goals are relatively specific.

What's even more frustrating is that the only challenges Labour has faced since taking office, to allow them some leeway in breaking the promises the way they have, is the ones they created themselves.

JA and Labour have a chance to do something worthwhile and show some teeth right now.

This leaked BP email showing the tactics they use to drive up prices, should give JA everything she needs to take action. Will she? I seriously doubt it, but it would be something if she did.
