Geektastic:

Planners elsewhere have found that pepperpotting social housing amongst quality private housing has two effects. The first is that developers walk away from actually doing the jobs due to the second, which is that the people who live in the expensive homes pay less because of the blight caused by the lower class occupants of the other homes.

The homes themselves may be indistinguishable from the outside but it usually becomes obvious pretty quickly which is which as a result of cars, trash, anti social behaviour and so on.

Why not just keeping your trolling, disgracefully bigoted thoughts to yourself.

I don't agree with calling anybody"lower class" but...

There is a socially acceptable level of living which covers property maintenance, lifestyle etc, and I'm pretty sure we know what's meant by that.

Call them whatever suits you - bogans, Westies etc would be the local terms. The name isn't relevant, it's the idea.

You seem intent on digging that hole for yourself even deeper, englishman.

Can someone let me know when the conversation goes back to being about the issue to do with mixed development housing and not about showing how pissed off we are that someone said something that lets us avoid the actual question?

It was a social experiment that did not work very well in the UK late 70's, 80's and 90's, and I have no doubt that Geektastic is aware of that. I can think of a few small areas in the Greater Wellington area where the problem is comparable.

What areas?

I was brought up in a pretty normal NZ neighbourhood, there were some state houses randomly dotted around the area, seemed to work fine.

NZ is not the UK.  For one reason or another, most NZ Pakeha ancestors left the UK and emigrated here, probably not because the weather is better.

Just to support the figure above; some interesting reading, particularly the table on p14 (although its bloody hard work figuring out what percentages relate to which category)

http://www.healthyhousing.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Severe-housing-deprivation-in-Aotearoa-2001-2013-1.pdf

I note that a quarter of people counting as being in severe housing deprivation had been in their current address for at least five years, which seems to be relatively consistent across the previous studies; it's almost like housing deprivation wasn't a thing that suddenly existed the day after National took office in 2008 like some people here think.

Further evidence of the success of the Key Govt. 'Rockstar Economy'.  Open the floodgates to immigration, drive up price of houses, retain loyalty of swing voters, provide endless supply of meek immigrants & students for the low wage jobs. It's a house of cards.

Marriage at what cost

About time the media caught on to just how much JA sold herself for...

Little wonder National wernt in the running for a coalition deal. They must be happy now.

Why would they be happy that they are not in government? That is the politicians goal, get into a position of power and implement positive policy change.

How could you possibly get this so utterly wrong, again?

I feel sorry for you :(

No need to feel sorry for me. Thank you though.

Heather will get a pat on the back for the amount of page views. The Press and Herald are full of stories like this all designed to get the eyeballs on the advertising. At the moment if one was to believe The Press, there is so much crime in Christchurch that it's unsafe to step outside your door. (Several crime stories every day.)
