The review of the HEalth System announced today is probably the best thing they have done so far. It is where a huge proportion of Govt Funds go and hasnt been reviewed for a decade. All for it.

Is this the review chaired by Heather Simpson? The Heather Simpson who was Chief of Staff to Helen Clark?

Jobs for mates? Heather Simpson for Gods Sake. I can think of many better qualified Labour people who could do a much better job than Simpson.

Was this indicated during the election? Considering how opposed Labour was to Assets being sold....

This isn't an asset sale, since they are selling bonds. It is just a way for Housing NZ to borrow money without that debt appearing on the main government balance sheet. But Housing NZ will almost certainly have to pay slightly higher interest that what the government itself pays. The above article says that a 1% interest premium would otherwise pay for an extra 20-30 state houses.

So in effect, the government is going to build fewer state houses. Solely so they can hide some of the money that they are borrowing. And so that they can claim to still be following their own budget responsibility rules. And the cost - $10 million assuming a 1% interest premium. Which is money that can't go on things like doctors visits. Just so they can pretend that they haven't broken their own rules.

I wasnt happy to hear she got the job. It is jobs for mates plus she is female. Just because she was Helens lacky doesnt qualify her to run such a high powered review of the largest organisation in NZ.

What does gender have to do with it?

@Pumpedd would you please advise the qualifications and experience Heather Simpson has and what qualifications and experience she is lacking in order to do the job she has been asked to do.

Gender should have nothing to do with it. It should always be the best person for the job regardless of gender or anything else. Labour do not like that rule.

Maybe you are unaware Mike. Jacinda is committed to having 50% of her caucus made up of women.  Of course the fact that Heather Simpson is female place nicely into her favor. So yes Gender does have quiet a bit to do with it actually and its not always "best person for the job".

None of the naysayers regarding Heather Simpson have presented reasons for their opposition to the appointment.

I really have no qualm with her gender, could not care less. I'm surprised nobody has brought up her age yet? She seems very old for the job. Possibly a little frail?

I have asked you a simple question with regards to your apparent opposition to Heather Simpsons appointment, that is not trolling. She is a very experienced individual with a  very long career at the senior levels of government bot nationally and international. She has a background of economics. She is more than capable of leading the review process.
