Actually I have been a National Party supporter for a long time and a financial member for a number of years. I believe in changes of regimes from time to time like I believe the ABs should not win a third WRC in a row. I was hoping Labour this time around was going to be good sadly I am very disappointed. I think their performance is not just lacking experience it is incompetence, deception and lacking professionalism.

I think even Winston can sense that it's becoming clear to people... His coalition negotiations were driven by what would be best for Winston rather than by what would be best for New Zealand.

It has been demonstrated by clever people that producing children is the worst thing you can do for the environment. 58 tonnes of CO2 per child or something per year, plus all the additional waste, food demand etc. Excess population is the sole reason for almost every environmental concern on this planet.

So, we have this Green/Labour thing, where you'd expect doing stuff for the environment to be top of the list.

Yet, with the (horribly named) Baby Bonus and WFF the government is set up to encourage and pay towards producing more CO2...

There has been not a scintilla of a mention of doing anything to reduce the numbers of children etc etc.

It's widely known that children are not my favourite thing, but this is not related to that: I am genuinely intrigued as to how they can square this circle in their own minds with a straight face.

We need child birth at a rate greater than we have now or we will end up with a population imbalance much worse than we destined for. If we take migration out of the mix our birth rate would be insufficient to maintain our population.

Isn't that the point? In environmental terms we need to reduce it, not maintain it.

Socialist and environmental policies never go together. Another example of this, is the winter energy payment. Assuming that it causes power usage to increase. It will cause higher carbon emissions.

The Labour Party contradiction bordering on deception is evident in their change of course with regards to toll roads. During their time in opposition they were opposed to toll roads, they now seem set to impose a toll on SH1 at Transmission Gully. Now I am sure they will assert that this is not a Labour Party contradiction but a Coalition Government contradiction.

Even though I have been against a lot that the Coalition have done. I am hopeful that they might at least reform the Resource Management Act. Once they try to get Kiwibuild going, which will show them that high house prices and rents are solely caused by the RMA and silly council rules.

But so far, they are only paying big money for existing urban land and housing projects. And they will have to sell them at a large loss to meet the promised sale prices. Which makes a complete mockery of the original claim that sale proceeds from the first Kiwibuild houses will be recycled many times over to fund more houses. As they have to sell them at a profit or at least break even for that to happen.

I am unhappy with National for not getting some proper RMA reforms done. There is still time for Labour to achieve what National have failed to do as far as the RMA is concerned. Hopefully they will pull through, but I'm not holding my breath.

Some of us just saw the writing on the wall a long time ago. Unfortunately though, we now going to just have to suck it up. My real gripe though is not that Labour is in government, its the system that put them there. If our democracy is all about one single man's choice, then I think its fair to say we can't really call it democracy now can we?

The fact of the matter is that Winston chose the government (and he picked the government that less New Zealanders would have picked) Winston had final say as to who runs this country - nobody else.

NZ First (7.20%) + Greens (6.27%) + Labour (36.89%) = 50.36% "Democratically" elected government.

NZ First (7.20%) + National (44.45%) = 51.65% "Democratically" elected government.

Which of the 2 options above would most New Zealanders have wanted for government?

The system in its current state is flawed. MMP is suppose to return power to the people, instead in NZ its guaranteed to produce a result where a minor party ends up grossly in control. (Winston is PM). The MMP system was designed for Germany in order to prevent any one party from gaining an absolute majority. New Zealanders dont want absolute majorities. We should be looking at alternatives.

We need to scrap the 5% threshold.

And any party member that did not win his/her seat, definitely does not deserve one in parliament (Winston). or at least can't become PM/or deputy, or hold the power to form a coalition. His own region does not even support him, he was outvoted.

@Wiggum it may well be time to review the current system but I feel it will be very hard to gain traction for a review from any of the current political parties that are present in the house. Anyone can start a petition to try and get a new referendum on the matter.

It would certainly be amusing. Sadly ultimately the Beehive does not have to act on petitions and Mr Peters skin is so thick that it simply wouldn't faze him.

When ever I think about Winston as PM I get this feeling of impending doom.
