gzt: Not a funnyname breach in this case gulfa referring to this:

Stuff: Bridges was discussing Acting Prime Minister Winston Peters' attacks on him and his co-leader when he accidentally uttered the insult. "Winston Peters spends a huge amount of time on me, on Paula Ben, Benefit, Bennett," Bridges said. "Let's start that again," he then laughed.

Personally I've not heard it used as an insult. I heard a newsreader/interviewer misspeak the same a while back. Is it used that way sometimes?

There's something very amusing about all that, a misspelling of Winston(e), a correct spelling of the accidental misspeaking by Bridges - Paula "Benefit" which is actually pretty commonly used by her many detractors - I've heard it said many times.  I actually like the fact that Bridges laughed at himself - it shows a human side that's been a bit lacking, IMO.

I see Hosking talking today about "what's wrong with the Waka jumping bill". What he has failed to take into account, is when the PARTY goes rogue.

The reason Winston proposed this bill as a requirement of his support for Labour, was according to a couple of people I know who are close to NZF, NZF went into the election expecting that after negotiations, that NZF and National would form the Government. During negotiations, there were rounds of voting that supported National/NZF and in the final stages, the majority supported this, but Winston overrode it with his voting powers as Leader. There were a LOT of unhappy NZF members apparently.

Is it just me or are Radio NZ really doubling down on the tenuous stories involving National MPs? First it was Nikki Kaye's stepbrother being a murderer in another country, now it's Simon Bridge's sister in law teaching creationism at a Charter School.

What's next, Chris Bishop's milkman skins cats? There's a dog three towns over from Paula Bennett's electorate office with a lazy eye? Disappointing to see such trash hitjobs from a (purportedly neutral) state broadcaster.

I have been really disappointed by the hatchet job RNZ has been trying with National since the election. With Clare Currans debacle with them, any credibility of impartial was pretty much shot.

I know plenty of people who railed against National for ANY perceieved croynism or hint of corruption, yet those people are strangely quiet when way worse is happening now the left is in power.

I saw the stepbrother story on Stuff a while back. It's usually news when an NZ'er is arrested overseas for something. Yeah I also questioned the point of the relationship thing. The other story I have not seen or heard yet.

I think part of the reason is that blogs like whaleoil etc will typically run this kind of thing and sort of hint at it etc. Reporting it is kind of a service as you then know what everyone else is on about. I think prior to the world of blogs etc this kind of thing would not be reported unless raised directly by the person concerned.

So, kind of like a new media influence on the traditional media way of doing things.

How is it that you so often have well positioned groups of people available to collectively and conveniently support your viewpoints?

I guess if you have an interest in politics and you discuss it, you will likely find people with all sorts of views and in all sorts of relationships. I am not sure what reason you feel I would lie about it.

This pretty much sums up what I was saying.

Judith Collins showing her inability to tell fact from fiction - tweets fake news from a CT "news" site - and attempts to troll the PM with it:

What an idiot.

You’re 0 for 2 so far today... Perhaps best to lay off the insults a little bit?

I'm 2 from 2. France has tightened up laws.  Collins and you are 0/2.

2 for 2 on being sucked in on fake news though - congrats.

Not even her party leader supports her:

National Party leader Simon Bridges said the topic was an issue Ms Collins "she felt strongly about, but she didn’t get her source right".

Ms Collins’ tweet has sparked concerns about the prevalence of fake news.
"I think when we are on Twitter a lot sometimes we do get it wrong. She has here, fair cop."

Collins should apologise - not "double down".  She ain't Trump.

Makes her supporters look like fools.

Collins has brain fart - tweets it.

Twyford has brain fart (e.g kiwibuild) - government policy, lol.

It does seem odd to me that France haven't adopted an age of consent (though they have tightened up the law).

Using this logic, how many times has Labour made "fools" of Labour supporters then?

I think you are being silly.

Being a supporter of someone doesn't mean you think everything they do is correct.

Yes, this concerns me as well.

I haven't read up on the reasoning, but I am struggling to see a downside for setting one.
