Wowowow I thought this was going to kick of with which minister is doing what ...

And not a cat fight about how useless the new govt is going to be ...

As I said, there are four kinds of people in NZ or any country

- the haves who work hard

- the have nots who work hard

they should be rewarded

- the haves who do nothing

- the have nots who do nothing*

they should not be rewarded (although you can't do much about the rich parents youtubers who buy new phones to throw them down 10 storey buildings unfortunately), though some need to be taught/educated.

*there is a cycle of poverty though, which need to be broken so they become the have nots who work hard and ARE rewarded

Let me kick of with which Minister is doing what

WP has a hand in just about everything

The Reverend Dr David Clark is the only one with one portfolio

Labour NZF and Green all share Finance Minister ... hmm ... not so sure about that. Better that giving it to one person though perhaps.

Tribe - I mean MMP has spoken.

Yeah, the minor guys got a lot for their presence.

I expected them to get the minor bits but they actually are getting a very major part.

Anyhow, what I was going to say was, despite all the Mike Hoskings and the property investors wanting to kick Jacinda out immediately, I've seen done a bit of research on her. She is here for the long run. Expect a Helen Clark sort of run.

Had an interesting discussion with my wife the other day. No matter what state the country is in, there will always be those who are considered in "poverty" relative to the wealthy and the average.

Some will be richer some poorer but there are families whose parents work multiple jobs and can't pay rent. That's not right. I'm not talking about those with 9 kids and can't feed them, there's something else wrong there. But basic living should not be unaffordable, which thanks in some part to property rent is an issue.

Thought it was an interesting article. People don't seem to understand the benefit is there to provide for people who *genuinely* cannot work, for whatever reason (Which I fully support and agree with), ideally temporarily, not as a backstop to those who are unable to earn more working than they would on a benefit. Working has greater benefits than simply income.

JA says she has a genuine interest in businesses who employ people, but Labours employment policies seem to indicate otherwise.

Two full time working parents on minimum wage (today) will bring in $1300 a week pre Tax. What is the average rental price for a 2 bedroom house in NZ right now? What about a 3 Bedroom ?

If you bump everyones income, inflation will balloon, which also makes things more unaffordable.

Well, I am sure my neighbour would disagree. He isn't getting rich by anyones imagination but does have about 35 staff who are all paid on time. His business addresses a particular niche part of the market. Should he shut his business down since in your view it's not much of a business? Then there would be 36 people potentially taking the dole.

Whether the tax payer gives a top up by way of tax breaks, or you pay more for products and services, the "tax payer" is supporting these businesses.

In your view is he bettter to pay 35 people full time wages at $16-17 an hour or 30 staff full time wages at $20?

I support a rise in the minimum wage, I just think 15.75 to $20 in 3 years is not sustainable for a lot of small businesses.

The free market economy rules say you have to put your prices up or cut your expenses.

So put your prices up and see if I still buy your product. As a consumer I have a choice to support your business. As a taxpayer I do not,

If you can't sell your product then those workers will go and find other jobs at a business that can make money - according to the free market rules.

THe reality is, Helen Clark the 2nd has managed to get herself in power, thanks in some part to a select few of National's policies. That's the country we have now, and if Labour and Greens have their way for a few more terms, we are heading left.
