The division between "all" and "National voters" in the second chart should be heeded in my opinion, Collins and Joyce might be popular with National voters who'll vote for whoever is selected anyway, but probably less effective in attracting swing voters.  Bennett should be out the race on that "favourability" poll result.

Nikki Kaye polls as the least divisive candidate with the highest favourabilty and lowest unfavourability.

If it's not ok to get involved in someone else's war on ideological grounds (e.g. an isis supporter) on the basis of consistency it is also not ok to get involved in someone else's war for personal profit.

I really like Nikki Kaye and have been following her since her early years in politics. I felt that her recent brush with breast cancer has pushed her views to a  further centre right spectrum and with careful public opinion management, will be the the PM at some stage. Much better than JA in every way including public speaking, which is JA's only strong-point at present.

Simon Bridges - an perfect counter to Jacinda and sure to find a lot of younger votes.

EXCELLENT OUTCOME! (Even if I may say so myself).

Wonder what happens with Collins now? I almost think she would have been an ideal deputy, someone able to challenge JA without being accused of sexism blah blah.

Problem is her ambition is naked so it will be very interesting to see how she sits in the rankings of the party in the coming weeks.

He is a little robotic, but I expect given some time he will polish it up and be a strong speaker.

"That's awesome the nats decided not to challenge labour at the next election. Good on them. We need a bit more bipartisanship."

I find this stupid to just copy it. Its no more crazy than JA being PM. I could go on to say that they will disintegrate over the next 12 months so National could easily win. But that would make my statement like the one being quoted here.

Are you quoting it because you agree? Who do you think should have been leader?

Don't like his speaking voice at all but let us hope he has great success and rids us of the current shower at the earliest opportunity!

No I quoted it because I thought it was an amusing reflection on a sentiment that is out there, whether some people can see it or not.

I'd have probably picked someone from the poll chart above who had a smaller "unfavourable" rating on the chart from the survey poll I posted above.

Not saying that things can't change - and that might be either way, but working toward that needed change in opinion (to gain the high "favourable" rating of say Key or Clark in her prime) while also hoping that the opposition self-destructs, it didn't work for Labour.

Wonder what happens with Collins now?

Is it 'she fumes on the sidelines and undermines the current leadership at every turn, awaiting her chance to back stab them when they are weak' ?

No I think she will be clever enough not to do that. She knows that she needs to endear herself to caucus if she is going to get anywhere. While they're working together as a team she knows that she won't have a chance, if things go real bad for National then anything could happen, in the meantime I expect she will be working hard trying to prove herself as a further potential leader.

However, it might be that she so happened to be in politics at the wrong time, when there was too much other talent.
