No surprises here, John Key deciding to step down at short notice was always a bad sign. Especially when the election was getting close.

I just can't see National going for young AND female so that rules out Adams.

Joyce and Coleman have all the personality of damp squid.

Collins scares the crap out of most people (and rightly so, she makes Hilary look honest!)

Most of National's caucus hate Paula as much as the rest of the country.

Which pretty much only leaves Simon Bridges to me.

Maybe Bridges.   Putting Judith Collins up against Jacinda would be like bringing back Ruth Richardson.    People will forgive politicians a lot if they like them.    Look at Kennedy and Reagan.

Collins has just announced her candidacy for the leadership.

Then shouldn't that be fortunately?

That's a pretty low bar you are setting for a possible future PM.

Im not setting it but you will find its important. If a new PM has negative history, or not that well liked in the party or the public its a setback. Half the issues will revolve around the negative reputation. A good MP who is clean gets a fresh start, and for National right now that's important, a new leaf so to speak. They have a small number of high profile people that many dont like, airing that in public is the last they need. They praise unity and cohesion but thats a big stretch for a small select few, Crusher, Joyce ec

Yes, this one has the correct title, the other vague title has the most content, including my last post which I quite like!

A title change to the old thread to something like this thread might be appropriate if MODS @michaelmurphy agree?

I have no objection to them being merged.

Yes, merge is better if the threads can be inserted chronologically.

I really liked this article from Bernard Hickey. It paints English as a fundamentally decent person. It's also not particularly complementary to John Key or Helen Clark which I found interesting.
