Seems clear that nk was expecting some reciprocity in the leadup to the talks and this didn't happen.

The biggest problem will be the lack of trust on both sides. North Korea could give up the weapons & allow neutral inspectors in to verify they are not rearming. With this in place it would be easier for the USA to trust North Korea. However for North Korea to trust the USA it is very very difficult. Look at how they interfere and try to topple governments in South America. Then look at Libya. Gaddafi was not toppled because he was a dictator and a very bad nasty person. Gaddafi was eliminated because he was proposing an African Union with its own currency & to prevent the Western countries from further exploiting Africa's natural resources. There is an excellent documentary about this on Aljazeera & more information at this website:

I think what North Korea will be trying to do is to get a security guarantee from China something like the NATO agreement in Europe. China could tell the USA that if they try to topple the Nth Korean regime, the next thing that would happen would be one or two million Chinese troops crossing the border. China would also give the USA a guarantee that they would not invade South Korea. In this scenario would the USA risk a war with China?

I don't think Kim got on his train & went to China just to have a chat & come home again!

Nuclear is a driven deterrent. It has worked 100%. Libya and so on,  removing the nuclear deterrent caused climate change. Thats why NK will not remove its nuclear capability. Never happen. Its safe as had been proven.

NK is smart, get weapons, ask for concessions. This time, they have the completed nuclear capability, unlike the past. They win.

There will never been a nuclear attack by NK as that causes no NK. The UScannot stack either as thats a US vs China WW3. These possibilities are a fallacy. Its a stalemate. However, NK can gain, US can be seen as a bully even though thats no secret. The US will lose even more credibility, China will gain credibility. Asia will become the new US of the 1950's.

While KJU did go to China, his meeting with SK was without China, they were miffed. KJU has China support (unless he starts a war) but he is also showing them he isnt a China puppet. Steve Jobs was a master marketer for Apple, KJU is also a master. He will get his own way, China will be happy, US will be outed, SK will be happy, Japan will get over it, and S.E.A. will have peace. Then the next chapter is EAST vs WEST as China grows. That another story.

That sounded like a bedtime story, tdgeek! You even got the, "They lived happily ever after".

As a story, it read pretty well to me. But, in the words of the pres, "We will see".

What will we see?

Trump uses that comment as a veiled threat, and it's truly meaningless crap. He won't do anything.

You mean Trump, as his "we will see" is the standard Trump template response, as he has no response.

But you forgot what is wrong with my post.... Explain.

Nothing wrong at all. I liked it. I was just adding the last bit to poke fun at the pres as that is his std response.

You sure he shakes it?

This article suggests the NRA has a grip of it - so they might be doing the shaking :-)

This is the best chance ever for a peace agreement. That alone could eventually lead towards a demilitarization of the border. Additionally it looks very likely Japan is ready to provide capital for the peaceful economic development of North Korea. An enormous amount of trust, goodwill and vision will be required to make this a success.

Agree. The problem is the US wants total denuclearisation, no doubt super fast. KJU has committed to that, but his definition will differ from the US. And the US said no sanction removal unless totally denuclearise. Given that everyone knows KJU is not waiting to press the red button, there needs to be a long term plan. That has many steps so that NK can recieve benefits sooner than later. An initial trust boost for some sanction reductions, then after that a linear benefit matched by a denuclearise benefit.  Aside from being realistic, Trump will never agree to that, he wants his bit now.

I hope NK, SK, China, Russia, maybe Japan, and the UN sort this out, it wont happen if Trump has any power. So leave Trump out, he can manage his own issues with NK, he can maintain sanctions with NK, the rest of us can get on with it.

I can't help but think that Trump's behaviour at and after the G7 summit was nothing more than than a "show of strength" for Kim -  that he and WH hawks wanted on front pages.

"See - I won't even take BS from friends" - but I can be fair with you - if you do exactly what I want".

Yes, Trump is a very fair man, as long as you do what he requires for his country, economy and security, and don't worry about you own.

I am hoping that other nations will stand up, and he treats KJU the same, so KJU walks away. This is about as close as its been to an international blow up, of his own doing

Trumps vision extends as far as his shadow extends at midday. He does not give a toss about his country, its security and economy. He cares only for himself and would throw his supporters, family and nation under the bus for personal gain.
