Second time late for AM. show, apparently he was all ready to go at 6.45 not 6.40am. As the show hosts say Jacinda made it on time even while late in her pregnancy. Sounds tough but how hard is it really? Set alarm, set phone, for a very early start lots of oldish people do this without a problem. Nice warm limo. pulls up at door. Go to studio with 20 minutes to spare. Security detail holds door open for Winston. Go inside sit down get ready. Go on show.

He could do a Winston (Churchill) & schedule a nap at 4 pm each day if need be.

Give the guy a break, he is a frail old man. lets not be too harsh on him. Perhaps he was having problems with his mobility scooter.

Come on folks, stop the trolling. Comments on the performance, not the person physical attributes.

There's a clause in the FUG for trolling.

"Asked on Newstalk ZB if he was getting the payments, Peters replied "I don't know whether I've applied or not" "

How can he not know if he made an application for more money? Is he unwell or is that level of forgetfulness normal?

Maybe he's waiting to find out his payments via the media?

What with his Ministerial pay, allowances and so on as well as his Super and winter fuel allowances, he'll not be wondering where his next fiver is coming from, that is for sure. Plus of course the old gold plated MP pension when he finally quits.

I know. The one thing no one mentioned in the media when his overpayment 'scandal' was leaked last year was why is a guy who has been on a 6 figure salary for 40 years applying for the pittance that is national super?

Who's in favour of means testing the pension?

The slightly off-putting thing is the faux sincerity he manages to come up with when talking about how his government will be listening and helping all the allegedly impoverished public servants going on strike. The man has more front than Brighton. He does not even have any constituents!

Not me. Nobody should be more entitled to pension than anybody else.

But then , neither do half the MPs. Even those who claim to be the list MP for a certain area.

I suggest the system should be based on need, not entitlement.

Entitlement is why we still have a royal family in the 21st century - yeah I know, start another thread :-)

It won't solve entitlement as the poor will just develop a sense of entitlement. Welfare is already there to help the needy.

Royal Head of our Govt still works in the 21st century. It is probably a lot cheaper than electing and maintaining Presidents etc.

That's right and that's the point about means testing. Welfare is there to help the needy. It's actually the wealthy who have a sense of entitlement

Why is someone like Winston Peters claiming the state pension?

it should be means tested to stop free loaders piling on just because they can.

You confusing pension with something else. Pension has nothing to do with being needy. He is just as much entitled to a pension just like everybody else. The guy is 73 years old. Why should he not be getting a pension?
