For what it's worth, I think the decision to muzzle Don Brash is a mistake. I do think he is a racist and I don't agree with his ideas but I don't think he should be prevented from speaking. Fascist Canadian troublemakers should have no right of 'free speech' in this country, but great care must be taken before denying this important right to our own citizens. It should only happen in exceptional circumstances and I don't think Brash meets that test.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have a nagging feeling that Brash was behind Southern and co coming to NZ. Probably wrong but it just nags away at me.

Apart from the fact that Brash isn't a fascist, I suspect it's also a mistake as it's probably a "false flag" event.

 

The students from the Politics Society invited him, then students from the Politics Society advised the vice chancellor there might be violence etc (very bloody unlikely IMO - but anyway).  If she was led to believe those threats were real - she has no choice.

 

Brash is  a member of the "Free Speech Coalition", very upset about the Molyneux/Southern situation.

 

The Politics Society and Brash probably set the whole thing up.  If so - then I feel for the vice chancellor - having to deal with a BS situation, unable to "prove" that she'd been set up, and also now a target of political sniping.

 

Dirty tricks happen.  Even in NZ.

I doubt it.  I'd allow him his claim that he didn't really know that those fascists are fascists. Superficially they may seem reasonably moderate, some digging may be needed to understand why they're espousing a particular collection of views.

IMO he presents his views very poorly - but he's a classical liberal, his views are rational and not fundamentally evil.  He's probably not a bad person - IMO he's a typical academic.

 

OTOH the subjects of this thread, call them fascists or alt-right or "paleo-conservative" or whatever, they are evil.

The far left loves to stir up a whole lot of nothing, they are clearly terrified of freedom of speech, unless it's their agenda that is being pushed of course.

 

Anything they don't agree with is automatically labeled 'hate speech', they simply can't handle it. What a joke.
