Trump isn't exactly "popular" in Aus (June 2018 Poll).

The new PM probably wouldn't want to be seen to be getting too close to him, despite having some policy views in common, anti-environment, pro-coal, anti-liberal etc:

I'd never even heard of Scott Morrison before he threw his hat in the ring. Now he is PM for our closest Ally.

Based on recent averages, he could be PM for a year. I doubt he'll make it though.  They'll be plotting against him already.

I don't know if this is good for NZ or not.

In 1998, Morrison moved to New Zealand to become director of the newly created Office of Tourism and Sport. He formed a close relationship with tourism minister Murray McCully, and was involved with the creation of the long-running "100% Pure New Zealand" campaign

One of the reasons that I couldn't go into politics, is the difference between what you want to acheieve and what you need to compromise on, to allow others with a similarly long list of desires.

I think the overall polititical view in Australia is that NZ has suckled off big brothers teet long enough. Whether that is right or wrong, it's the view, and I don't see concessions being made for us any time soon.

There seems to be more daggers in Canberra than there was at the Forum on the Ides of March

It is interesting that so many western democracies with fpp have descended into chaos. The UK, US and Australia appear incapable of stable goverment.

For all the complaints about MMP it does seem to produce stable governments. I wonder if it's inherent requirement for compromise stops many of the nutters(on both sides) from acheiving power.

Excellent coverage by ABC of the whole swearing in ceremony. It's always interesting to see those little details of the ceremonies.

To elaborate. They filmed the 'swearing in' room for about 10 minutes before the ceremony & explained who all the people were as they went to their seating, then the whole ceremony itself, & finished up with the taking of photos on the steps of Government House.  Haven't watched Aljazeera but they would prob. only show the signing of the documents and the handshakes!

Silliest headline in Stuff today: 'Turnbull did not take part in leadership contest'   Think we knew that several days ago.
