I don't know how Chinese leadership responds.

For the Hong Kong residents, it's probably not helpful that the US, Russia and British governments do not want to get involved,

It may be similar to the civil rights movement in the US south in the 1960's, where things got a lot worse before they got better.

I don't believe that the US, Russian and British government involvement would help. I feel their involvement would exacerbate the situation and make it worse for the Hong Kong residents. Maybe the UN or a neutral nation would be more useful to broker a resolution.

There's no way any country would get involved, given trade threats.

It's like trying to break up a drunken brawl; you're as likely to get punched from both parties as stop it.

Here's the bottom 10 countries for Chinese trade.

St. Pierre/Miquelon
Western Sahara
Wallis/Futuna Islands
Montserrat
Bonaire/St Eustatius/Saba
Andorra
Nauru
Norfolk Island
Gibraltar
Turks/Caicos Islands

I don't believe they'd help if they could anyway, they're preoccupied with their own nationalist agendas.

China suspends US military visits to Hong Kong after Donald Trump signs democracy act

South China Morning Post

China has suspended visits to Hong Kong by US military vessels and aircraft, and sanctioned various US-based organisations, a few days after US President Donald Trump signed a law increasing scrutiny of the city.

Beijing said it was sanctioning US-based non-government organisations, such as Human Rights Watch, for “supporting violent activities” in the city.
