What this demonstrates (once again), is that there are mediocre people with poor judgement on both sides of the political spectrum. I sometimes wonder if we have an unusual proportion of failing politicians due to a small pool of talent to draw from.

They are being weeded out which is something. I see Labour has just dumped Marian Hobbs. Down Under, at least we do a bit of draining the swamp, unlike TRump and that was his election pitch
Oops Hobbs is just a Regional Council issue

I should introduce you to the part of my extended family who live in the electorate.

I suspect it's this as much as anything else. National used to point to Labour as being a party of unionists and MP's staffers with no experience but they are increasingly making weird selections.
Simeon Brown doesn't seem to know what decade it is. I don't know much about Bezzant - seems accomplished enough - but disappointing to see they could not find a capable woman to take Paula's spot.
With the expection of Kaye, it doesn't seem like National's Next Generation have amounted to much.
I have come to the conclusion that National do not want to win the election. The Green Party and NZ First are actively trying to avoid parliament.

“The desire to be a politician should bar you for life from ever becoming one.”
Common sense is not as common as you think.

Walker quits politics altogether.

He must be sitting at home thinking holy crap July turned to poop fast
When does he have to let the Speaker know, or is that done for him? Does he stay a National MP until the election and now they have to scramble someone else to take his place?

I believe he will be an independent MP until the election.

Hypocrite. Must have taken the idea out of Trump's playbook.

Possibly because the National Party doesn’t (officially) operate a quota system for their candidates.
