I bet if you took a poll today Bridges would out-poll Muller.

Bridges was horrible on many levels. Muller is politically naive. A stuffed teddy bear would poll higher than Bridges and would be a better leader.

I cant agree. he was stable but lacking something. Lacking credibility? Whining about everything? Opposition so you expect that. He had a few valid things to whine about. Muller is terrible. Goldsmith is nothing. Google him. Woodhouse is a shocker, more whining, no ideas. Id bring in Collins. At least she is known, she is tough, and kick some arse. Bring in Collins and lose the election? Better to bring her in once Muller is thrashed on Sept 19. Build a team. You can bash on but you need a good team if you want to be serious, Im sure there are plenty of young Nats up to it. despite what many think of politicians, there are plenty that want to do good. They arent cars sales people.

Muller rated higher than Bridges when they changed ownership of the party, but I wonder if that was just a honeymoon period or something.

Id expect that. SB was on a downer, then Muller was the clean, next big thing, the new vision, not criticising for the sake of it. Those four points have failed. Personally whats worse for me was a couple of occasions he bashed the Govt then was asked what he would do, he stated he doesnt know. I repeat that honesty so no further rhetoric but dont bash when you cannot counter.

Lots of adjectives, each time there is an issue at a hotel he uses the same string or words over and over. Thats gets a bit tiresome, especially when he admits he's nit sure how to fix it, and in any case, we escaped leaving level 4 after two weeks as they are not governing.

Having been away from this thread for a few weeks I agree.

Muller isn't bringing anything to the debate, and personally I am quite happy about it. I don't really want to see National rise in the polls as Labour or Labour/Greens would be a great outcome for this country as Winston would continue to throw out the stylised dirt from the other side.

Right wing parties the world over have shown themselves completely incapable of competent governing as their approaches for small government, tax cuts for the rich and austerity completely ignore the reality that in a civilised first world country lots of people dying isn't a good thing as a chunk of those folks are your voters.

I say bring on the election, raise taxes including introducing a new top rate (which would directly impact me, and I am ok with that) as the tired old mantra of our smartest will leave is and has always been a nonsense, right now our smartest are returning as they see what is happening overseas.

I have a feeling he's going to struggle in the debates too. Christ alone knows he didn't do very well when under pressure here.

JK was great. Gets asked a direct question where he cannot get out of it, he smiles. Thats because he had credibility and he didnt w$nk on about stuff. Doesn't matter if you support or dont support him you trusted him, as he's not dodgy. TM is out of his depth.

I dont get why this 1.5B but only 60km road is fantastic. What about the 50 roads of national sigificance? Thats important. ChCh to Ashburton is passing lanes every 5 minutes, maybe its vote catching, I dunno

He "milked" his reputation as leader of "The Rock Star Economy" (TM), milked the image of the "millionaire with the Common Touch" - a myth created by PR consultants by putting him up for TV features "cooking a snarler" at a $2 million Omaha beach "bach", the "Rock Star Son", milked the (false) image of the self-raised hero who rose from the ashes of single-parent state-house depravity to become "Dear Leader", appearing on popular US TV shows.

(note - this is only partly sarcasm)

Muller's "PR image" on the other hand - seems to be based on replicating the persona of one of the cartoon characters of a 1970's "Chesdale Cheese" TV advertisement.  That's not bad - possibly cultural advancement for the party.

Edit - was 1969 - not '70s.  Todd is "Dale" I think - the guy on the right:

I never really liked John Key, my impression of him was that he only cared about looking after his mates in big business and not really anyone else, but YMMHV.

Much as Ardern skates over any criticism of her administration by giving someone a hug in an abaya.

Key and Ardern are both superb politicians, Key didn't really accomplish much to improve New Zealand with his personal popularity and Ardern is going the same way.
