Who will be brave enough to play Nationals version of Russian Roulette? Judith Collins would have to be favourite but not the now leader they need. I feel another three years in opposition would be best for National and allow new talent to form and for the party to consolidate or they risk extinction.

Honestly? Bridges. I think it's going to be Bridges.

Crusher will be hot favourite I imagine, she's about the only one left that the public have heard of

Why would she want the job?

Isnt being the leader and potentially the PM a goal? Every time there has been ructions she is the first name asked. National can only rise from this train wreck, its probbaly easier to rebuild from this level for the 2023 election.

Bridges would be the extinction event for National. Either Nikki Kaye or Judith Collins could stop the rot.

It would take a fool to put their hand up for that job, National had all but the faintest of hopes before this, now they have none. Collins or Adams are the most likely "high profile" names to be able to at least give National a modicum of respectability in the election, but it will not be sufficient.

Admit defeat now, build a leader and a party ready to take on labour in 2023

Could well be. Get some quality PR to manage his delivery, start over. They may appoint an interim leader, him or JC, and then work hard to unite a team. Off the cuff comment but could they do a joint leadership as Greens often do? If nothing else, that smacks of unity, which is one of the current problems, and it slaos shuts down the "another coup with internal dissent"

I'd say Judith would be equally as risky as Bridges, I can't see it. It's an all-or-nothing call.

Kaye...I want Kaye, but I don't think the Party is in a position to fully embrace liberalism again like it did under Key. There's a strong religious faction in the party which needs to be gotten rid of, IMO. They're prone to imported republican-style hysteria that just makes everyone uncomfortable. If Kaye stepped up as Leader then I suspect she's going to end up having to front a lot policies she disagrees with.

They would be a much more appealing party if they let her set the agenda, but I suspect they are not ready to accept that yet.

The election is over so there is no pressure. 3 years to rebuild. get some names in there and get Goldsmith out of Finance, create a star studded lineup for 2023

:-)  Not many to choose from. Lessons learned, be more measured in his leadership, that type of thing is probably why he is seen as an option

There is no benefit being the leader who gets a hiding. If becoming pm is the goal that isn't how you get it.

If the party is going well, there is no opportunity to put your hand up. In todays scenario, getting a hiding is expected based on a lot of other things and not based on being the new PM. If you have the skills to rebuild, you can start from a clean slate today and put yourself in contention in 3 years, thats one way to look at it.

The perception of Kaye is she is to weak to be in that position. Crusher should take it at her age might as well say I was leader of a party once and build somebody else for another time.

Would be pretty sure thats the election right there I just hope to god nz first are no where near the table.

Perish the thought but there could be voter apathy from both main parties that would help NZF.
