To think, a few short months ago Australia's political landscape was the laughing stock of NZ.

What a mess!

If you combine the leaders of National, and Labour to pick up the Labour leadership shambles, you are well on the way to a new party. Leaders Official Party   (LOP seems ideal)

Oh well, give it a year and both parties should be steady and stable. After you prune you get new growth, it works in my garden

As long as the roots and core of the plant is healthy, National is neither. New Zealand desperately needs a new centre party that has talent, depth and integrity. The odds on that are very low.

I love Muldoons quote to this day, Jacinda should use it.

I'd say that the 2002 or 2011 elections are the most likely blueprint for this year. National will get wiped out with the centre and right wing parties doing quite well. Winston must be laughing his head off, this likely means he gets another term.

Judith Collins is the new National leader. Voting still under way for #2.

At least she can take on the PM without being accused of being misogynist or sexist.

Brownlee Deputy. Someone who most of the caucus dislikes as leader and the ultimate placeholder as deputy. They'll turn the base out which probably the most the party can hope for.

Collins and Brownlee I believe confirms that National actually does not want to win the election. This selection will make their wish a reality.

At this point winning was largely out of the question. It was about avoiding being wiped out.

They have ensured a wipe out as certain as me trying to surf.

Collins is very popular with the National base. The most important thing for National is to get their core voters to turn out. Swing voters aren't likely to vote for them anyway but if they get their base out they can get 30-35% fairly easily.

I am a long time National voter and my wife a lifetime National voter and neither of us will vote National with these two in leadership

Brownlee Deputy.

I can understand Collins but Brownlee would be a stupid move plus I can't stand the guy.

For me I would prefer a Labour win with no NZ first at the table and Tyford kicked for six.

Act might grab a few seats out of this and could be interesting.
