I normally stay away from politics Judith Collins said “take back our country from the current lot” it irked
me a lot you have one leader say we worked together as 5 million to control Covid let’s keep working together to get the economy going again and the just wanting to take power

Judith Collins is the new National leader. Voting still under way for #2.

At least she can take on the PM without being accused of being misogynist or sexist.

That's not even technically correct.

I suspect you may find this surprising but women can be sexist and misogynistic. Just because she calls the PM Cindy rather than Jacinda doesn’t make it any less misogynistic.

They have ensured a wipe out as certain as me trying to surf.

Collins is very popular with the National base. The most important thing for National is to get their core voters to turn out. Swing voters aren't likely to vote for them anyway but if they get their base out they can get 30-35% fairly easily.

I know a fair few National voters and none of them like her (and they were fairly indifferent towards Simon). Gerry isn't exactly winning in the popularity stakes either. But the election is still a couple of months away.

I am a long time National voter and my wife a lifetime National voter and neither of us will vote National with these two in leadership

If you can vote for someone as odious as Brash then Collins is a breath of fresh air.

I'm not sure about that. Brash had a consistent libertarian ideology / Milton Friedman economics, and despite making headlines in a bad way a few times for expressing those ideas, was predictable and consistent.  I do believe he meant well.

Collins is an authoritarian populist. Already she seems to be pushing the point that she's there to "crush" Jacinda Adern and "destroy" the present government.  She does not care about all NZers - only those on her side.  Trump words from her - and her supporters.  Check her facebook page.

I'm waiting for her first policy announcement - the area it's in will tell us a lot.

If it's tax, education or similar then she's going to put some thought into this.

If it's Law and Order, get ready for the same old same old.

They'll have to announce something fairly shortly, can't make the mistake Muller made of coming in and then just not doing much at all.

Yes I concede it’s not technically correct, but in the world of identity politics you are far less likely to be criticised as something if you belong to the target group yourself. Applies to almost anything you can put -ist onto the end of.

I must say I’m a bit dismayed at the choice of Brownlee as the deputy though. An urban MP from the north as leader and an urban MP from the south as deputy.

Could have been worse though I guess, they could have picked Nick Smith to be deputy. Or upped the diversity by choosing Goldsmith (/sarcasm).

Brash was a libertarian except for the racist dog whistling. He and Peters brought that crap front and centre in NZ politics.

They could have picked JC for toughness and experience and a newcomevr such as Mitchell as the fresh new face, and avoid the "just the old guard" mentality. Unless Brownlee was a safe deputy, wont be a future challenger

Partially that but also Mitchell is more of a strongman type and that's Judith's strength.

I'm just pleased they chose to avoid Goldsmith.
