If you feel we could have easily gone out of the blocks and nailed 99% of everything, your in a  different reality.

I guess it's hard to reconcile the 'learning on the job' with the portrayal of a calculating, conservative and well-executed response, which is what the international media would have us believe we had.

Today, admissions that quarantine staff were not being tested to the level the Minister was assured they were being tested.

"Everyone makes mistakes" is what I'd tell a toddler when they fall over or lose a ball over the fence. It's not good enough if Labour want to keep using phrases like 'this is a Covid19 election'. Devil-may-care/National would be worse!!! is not an acceptable response to process failure during a global pandemic.

Let me know when we have a day without a revelation of a systematic failure. I might be in a better mood then.

Did they say that? Im unsure what country managed a perfectly executed response. And was expected to do so, irregardless of how this virus differs to SARS, which was everyones go to plan. AFAIK he international media commented on our response, the haste of it and the harshness of it, i.e. level 4. Solve health you solve the economy. Victoria learnt that. Second time around that compares to Melbourne, an article in the media today comparing that. Obviously we could have done better. Today, now that we need it, testing is at levels that blows away Australia per capita.Thats far cry from early on when testing had to be created in numbers. Border testing yes thats poor that we heard. Does Hipkins need to stand there monitoring it? It seems so, Id like to know who advised him that its working as planned. Gerry managed EQC response, maybe he should take over, I dunno.... Is the response, one by an inept Govt who could not manage their way out of a paper bag, or is it quite difficult? How do we stop people breaking out as we probably are not allowed to keep them in prison. Some here want them locked in their rooms for 14 days.

But if we are not managing it well, and we have daily systematic failures, Maybe ACT can help. Or Michael Woodhouse.

I'll wait for tomorrows failures to be reported.

There you go, the next faiklure

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/08/australian-health-official-labels-nz-s-covid-19-response-as-very-dangerous.html

Kelly said the relaxation of restrictions in New Zealand and the current outbreak serves as an example for states in Australia that are performing well in the fight against COVID-19.

We clearly need to follow our larger cousin...

Bonus for today: reports of a fire alarm at Jet Park and positives/negatives mingling freely. Sigh.

Suggest a practical solution.

Allowing people to burn to death is not a solution.

It's also probably "fake news":

TVNZ reporter Anna Burns-Francis tweeted just after noon that those in quarantine were "spaced apart, but mixed (negatives and possible positives) outside".

"Don't expect any footage though - they're being told to delete photos and videos by police and quarantine staff."

There's a "conspiracy theory" there.  The fact is if they're identifiable and possible positives, then the media should delete the photos.  No conspiracy.

Hmmm a plan for keeping people separated at a facility exclusively used for managing Covid19? Sounds like hard work. Don't we have like some army dudes looking after this?

But you're right, I'm seriously suggesting they let people burn to death🙄

But if we're calling the state broadcaster a 'fake news source' then I guess all bets are off.

Auckland Council has had reports of queues of cars more than 2km long at Muriwai Beach, influxes of people using toilets, padlocks and chains cut on closed gates (for example at Coast Road in Muriwai, Cornwallis and along Scenic Drive in the Waitākere Ranges).

I guess its MoH's fault or the Govts... from what I read here.

The lack of consequences is the government's fault. The failure to heavily fine or arrest people leaving Auckland means that there is no real deterrent for idiots who break the rules.

Yes. if they arrested a few thousand people, then the world will end, too aggressive. If they arrested a few thousand people they have nowhere to put them/charge them/or enough Courts for them. Get let go. Then we have protests, which we already have had, anti lockdown protests, and so on. The team of 5 million is why we have had a good result, its also why its impossible to manage the bad apples. Doesnt matter if its in MIQ or on the beach, people think its ok to ignore and break the law. But im keen to see 5000 arrested.

This lot isnt leaving Auckland, they are just enjoying the sunny weekend. Personally Id like mass arrests, but the logistics of that volume means they all get let go. No deterrent.

Half a dozen CT cases pop up, Level 4 for a further 2 weeks, I guess thats acceptable, the rest of AKL may not think so

Between covid and what is happening in USA there is little oxygen for either side re policy and such for the election.
Though I have after seeing too much of what goes on in USA started to go off the pork barrel bidding war that elections have become.
Cos sensible scalable targets don't excite, and you promised fiscal responsibility so you were not going to throw money at it to make it real.
How many bridges did the north get, how many houses were built ?
We still have rotting hospitals, but neither side was going to relax the fiscal responsibility enough to deal to that for once.

Well the Far North did get something if hand-me-downs.
Truly affordable ex Auckland houses that were badly needed, and in a way preserving 60's architecture.
A doco company missed out there , there must have been many moments in moving that many houses that far on those roads.
Might have made good TV.

I must confess I did go walking today (with my boys) but made sure we all kept our distance from everyone else and didn't go too far.

Nothing to confess. Exercise, activity keeps you from wanting to "escape", doing the right thing. +1

Ha speaking of bridges, that was in the news when the Northland polling came out. I believe of the 10 promised by National, two were built and a third is being built.

My view of "all the people" out and about is the same as music festivals - a vocal and visible but tiny minority. Wow you're going to RnV for New Years, look at you go partying at midnight! Meanwhile 95% of the country will be tucked up in bed.

Much like Auckland, so a few thousand people go to the beach etc etc, but this is a city of 1.5m so it is a tiny number. Would it be nice if EVERYONE stayed home? Sure, but I'll take 99.5% over 95%.

The Health Minister does not use the Covid19 contact tracing app.

Words fail me.

He has staff who record his movements every day, down to the minute. Maybe one of them could scan codes to keep you happy.
