Dingbatt:

So David Clark’s bike ride was recorded by aides?

Good point. I'm not sure how that works with Ministers. I assume they always have a legion of aides in tow. But it might also have something to do with the particular Minister. I don't have the impression that Hipkins has a lot of private time.

Dingbatt: So David Clark’s bike ride was recorded by aides?

And if we are going to both-sides this argument I assume Simon Bridges never stopped anywhere on his weekly trip from TGA-WLG, always sanitized, was wearing a mask, used the app due to the fact that the UFB connection at his home and Electorate office were still working fine.

How many weeks again did he do that drive with the only reason to be in front of the cameras and to not work from the local region.

But granted without it we wouldn't have had amazing interactions with both David Seymour and Simon Bridges and Kevin Kenrick, TVNZ CEO like this:

(taken from: https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/scl/epidemic-response/news-archive/watch-public-meetings-of-the-epidemic-response-committee/ on 15 April)

https://player.vimeo.com/video/407410812#t=1h41m53s

Seymour          Ah, yes, thank you, Kevin. I just wanted to ask about your decision not to pay a dividend. Duncan Greive in a recent column quoted out that that was fairly easily accepted by the Minister, who, of course, is a former TVNZ employee. I don’t know if Duncan’s being unfair there, but it does raise a question of what sort of ethical decision-making went on within TVNZ when you decided to compete aggressively whilst not paying a dividend versus pay a dividend, a rate of return that your competitor is required to pay, or something equivalent, and restrain your competition within those bounds, because it seems to me that you’ve been able to really dominate your competitor, aided by the fact that you haven’t had to pay a dividend. That, some might say, was an unfair advantage, and I wonder about how that decision making went on within TVNZ.

Kenrick           I suspect the decision making in TVNZ was very similar to the decision that NZME made when they chose not to pay a dividend, that Sky did when they chose not to pay a dividend. You should ask MediaWorks when they come on the call whether they’ve actually paid a dividend to their shareholder. I also note that Netflix is not paying one either, and they’re probably our biggest competitor right now, so on that basis, I think you’re either choosing to invest in your business or you’re not; we chose to invest, and I think there are plenty of other examples of that both locally and internationally.

Seymour          Good answer. Thank you.

Bridges            I mean, I’m sort of pushing my luck here, Kevin, but, again, you sort of asked for it. If Netflix is your major competitor, why the hell are we funding you? Why don’t we just—

Kenrick           I don’t believe that you are, Simon.

Bridges            Sure, but OK.

Kenrick           Are you saying that you are funding me?

Bridges            Well, we’re not, you’re right. At the moment, technically we’re not. I suppose it comes back to what you’ve said about content and the need for public-good content, and, ultimately, if you’re a public broadcaster, that’s what we want, not Netflix, isn’t it?

But sure.... the opposition parties know the facts and are ready to govern.

What the Health Minister of the current government does or doesn't do has literally nothing to do with what the former leader of the opposition did four months ago.

But who has been the health minister for the last 7 weeks, and you were bringing up historic actions from someone who is no longer the minister in charge.

A Clark apologised for the bike ride and never did it again. Bridges professed he had done nothing wrong and continued to drive TGA-WLG during L4 lockdown even after he had been caught out with a lie.

Aren't the opposition supposed to be the "government in waiting" so why don't you hold all MPs to the same standard?

You were responding to my post where I responding to @dingbatt

Dingbatt: So David Clark’s bike ride was recorded by aides?

So should all political parties be held to the same / similar standard irrespective of if they are the government or not?

So we have had reports of NZFirst hiring the so-called Brexit Boys who ran a campaign based on dis-information amplified via social media to push for Brexit. Now we are seeing a concerted effort to introduce dis-information around the Covid situation and response to it. At the same time we are seeing Brownlee dog-whistle conspiracy theories he was also using a similar line to what WhaleOil used to use when breaching suppression orders (Brownlee "I am just saying some interesting facts", WhaleOil would post an article about a crime with the name of offender suppressed shortly afterward would post "An interesting name" when called on it he said "I just thought the name was an interesting one") We have two main parties who look like they will be leaning heavily in to conspiracy BS going in to the election.

You also have Brownlee walking back on the conspiracy ideas and publicly stating he is uncomfortable with being seen as enabling that sort of thing, while Peters is doubling-down on his claims with added bonus of being the Deputy Prime Minister.

One of these is far, far worse than the other.

No, I did.
It was to point out that Ministers don’t have aides recording what they do every minute of the day and as such it is not an excuse for Mr Hipkins to not lead by example and have the tracking app installed on his phone. Anything else inferred is tilting at windmills I’m afraid.

How about you *actually* watch the interview and find me somewhere where he wasn't using the app: It starts at 6:05

Do you use the app "Yes I use it to scan QR codes but haven't been manually adding entries"

"Outside of work I have been keeping a diary of all my movements"

But please... go on say that he wasn't using the app.

Last night I heard a recording (on one of the 6pm news channels) of Peters saying  "the rumour circulating on social media [about the index family in the current cluster] is not my rumour".  The implication being that he has rumour, but that isn't it.  For something to be a rumour, surely it has to be circulating somewhere.  So: Which rumour is Winston's Rumour; and Where is it circulating?

You couldn't write this stuff.

I have no intention of watching the interview, and to be honest, I don’t care if Hipkins uses the app or not. My only intention was to point out the fallacy of aides recording minister’s movements as an excuse for something. Damn windmills!
