Ross says New Zealand needs to call China out over its human rights issues.

"Too much overseas money flows into our politics," he says.

"We've put too many eggs in the China basket."

ROFL. Hilarious.

In the case that you raised Ardern didn't say something that was demonstrably untrue. Collins rebutted her position in a direct way.

Ardern alluded that the outbreak didn't come from the border. It may not be 'demonstrably' untrue but it's also patently ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

Mind you if the debate had been moderated they would have been so busy trying to pin Collins down that Ardern probably wouldn't have been able to speak.

I believe she said that we don't know where the outbreak came from. That is actually true. I agree that it's almost impossible for it to have come from somewhere else but trying to moderate that would have gone nowhere because Ardern could just pivot back to the fact they don't know and no one could prove her wrong.

There's plenty of other waffle to challenge her on, I just think you didn't pick a great example.

The final debate promises to be fairly unpleasant. As her position has become desperate Collins has gone full attack dog and is now appearing somewhat unhinged. It should be somewhat entertaining but largely a waste of time.

She has rather jumped the shark, I used to quite like Collins once upon a time.

Not only that, but with almost half the country having voted already you can't imagine this last debate having much of an impact on anything except the amount of hot air to be found in a certain TV studio.

At this point Collins is just trying to get the base to turn out and actually vote. The othering and wild tax accusations are red meat for the more unpleasant parts of the core National vote.

She certainly won't be bringing nett additional voters over to National with the current performance.

Normally barstools or the like isn't it? This is just a bit weird.

It was actually pretty decent and Jessica Mutch McKay did a good job.

The last round. No-one actually 'wins' these kinds of things, but Jacinda definitely came out ahead. Don't know if it changes any votes.

LOL

Ardern: If I don't win I am quitting, if you don't want me to quit then vote for Labour.

/me facepalm

There's a lot to unpack in that little ultimatum.

Hardly her finest moment.

Let's twist it around and put the worst possible interpretation on it. That is not what she said. What she said is that if she loses, she would do the honourable thing and step aside for someone else.

It's a finer moment than this post is for you. That's not what she said.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300133999/election-2020-jacinda-ardern-says-she-will-resign-from-leadership-if-labour-loses

Speaking to reporters after the event, Ardern said she would step away from politics entirely if Labour lost the election.

“My message would that be if people don't want to see me resign, then vote for Labour.”

Twisting works in both directions. How is it the "honourable" thing to do? She didn't say she would *offer* to step down, and she knows Labours talent especially in leadership roles is pretty thin. She could be a very effective opposition leader, almost certainly moreso than anyone else in the current

Labour caucus.
