Handle9: It's a fair criticism after the nonsense with her making up quotes on social media

I wasn't aware of that one. Collins backed Hipango all the way. Another MP posted the same meme at the time. The articles did not mention any specific incident at all.

She also made up that Ardern supported full term abortion. She's a loose cannon.

She should have done what Judith Tizard did and step aside for the next person on National's list if she's really that bad. Just my 2c.

Why bother? ACT is going to become the main opposition party anyway.

Democratic government needs an effective opposition. National and ACT are not it.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could have an effective Govenment AND an effective opposition. Sadly we have neither.

Good question.

While I have been living here one party or the other has been completely dominant. They do their 3 terms or whatever, implode, and then the other lot take over.

Similar in the UK except Labour have been totally ineffectual for an extended period of time now, over a decade, and currently show no sign of turning it around.

The Mueller "leak" story is getting nastier and nastier. Between this and the Smith gaslighting it seems like Collins is attempting to knife any number of enemies before she gets rolled.

Once again if you read what Hipango actually wrote on Facebook it's consistent with someone in the National party with an extreme view. A senior National MP commented on the post in support. And once again Collins backed up Hipango's holding of that view when questioned by media.

Making up stories (aka telling lies) to try to gain support for your extreme view is the problem, Collins backing the MP's "right" to hold extremist views is a smokescreen - it avoided addressing the real issue - that Hipango is a loose cannon, her comments about full term abortion are blatant deliberate hateful lies.

Is there a screenshot of what she said? I'd be curious to see the context.

Context was that it was a conscience vote in parliament and that Judith Collins and 18 other National Party MPs voted for passing the bill.
Nothing changed for termination of >20 week pregnancies - two doctors still need to approve.  It's incredibly cruel and barbaric to suggest that woman and their partners who choose to terminate late stage pregnancy for medical reasons are "violating human life" and to force them to knowingly carry to full-term babies suffering gross deformities or other medical conditions which make any life or meaningful life outside the womb impossible.
